Don't forget to install a self-destruct mode on the DVD that is triggered the first time they say "Medellin".

Allow me to be the contrarian and say don't watch The Shield. Or at least, just watch seasons 1-4 and leave it at that.

I just didn't get down with the turn the series took in season 5 and it ruined the show for me. The direction they decided to take did not conform with the reasons why I watched the show. This prob sounds way childish, I know. I also realize I'm in a small minority here. Possibly just me.

Don't think Im spoiling here but I'll do it anyway:

Spoiler:
I can kinda see where you are coming from but when you finish watching it you just think to yourself "Wow that was just flat out awesome how they went down that route".

I did watch the entire series, and if I had a different attitude about the show going into Season 5, I prob would have really enjoyed it. To me, the show was about brotherhood and watching the Strike Team run wild on fools and get away with it while everyone laughed at Dutch. I didn't want to see them go down, and I didn't want to see them permanently turn on each other. Watching seasons 4&5 I just kept rooting for them to reunite. The finale of Season 5 came as a major gut punch for me.

They just did so much crazy **** that could never happen in real life in the first 3 seasons that I never thought it would end in tragedy for them. Kinda dumb, I know.

I'm currently rewatching...ER. Halfway through season 3 and I'm into the swing of it. Loved it as a teenager but was kinda shocked how soppy and whimsical the first season was. Obviously I'm a big girly man for persevering.

So...question to the floor: series you watched / loved years ago but would hate / never watch now?

I used to watch ER several years ago. Enjoyed it until right around the time that Noah Wyle became the main character, although I think that had a lot more to do with the writers running out of ideas than Wyle. The multiple run-ins Paul McCrane had with helicopters was just wtf, and his character in particular went from hard-assed and believable to completely cartoonish in about two seasons.

The most logical answer to your question is most sitcoms. They just aren't that funny. If I watched an episode of say Diff'rent Strokes or Gimme A Break now I wonder if I'd enjoy it at all, but I was growing up and probably pretty easily amused.

D104,

I think the things you are bothered by are places the series intended to go all along.

Spoiler:
And the season 5 finale is SUPPOSED to be a major gut punch; that's what makes it amazing.

Both helicopter incidents on ER were major LOL. The second on especially. I half expected a metal cyborg to arise from the ashes like the Terminator.

The UK Shameless was amazing early on but it went down hill so fast. I think its still going but not sure how the viewing figures are. I gave up years ago.

I agree. For whatever reason, I just wasn't remotely prepared for it and sapped the enjoyment of watching the show for me.

One more thing:

Spoiler:
To me, Breaking Bad succeeded where The Shield failed. Walter White's story arc is just amazing, taking someone that you rooted for and turned him into the villain that you rooted against. With the Shield, it just didn't work for me. From the beginning, the Strike Team were the bad guys you rooted for. I rooted against everyone that was trying to take them down. I guess I just need my protagonist to win in the end.

Aggressively incorrect. The Shield has a GOAT ending. Lost's ending is so bad I would never suggest anybody watch even the good parts. Even if Lost maintained it's S1 level of quality, it still wouldn't be as good as The Shield.

I find very little difference between Bud/Miller/Coors Light. If I'm drinking one of them, I'm just drinking fast to get drunk and the differences in taste aren't enough to matter.

As mention- Lost is #1 with a bullet here. The early parts of the show raised some many interesting questions and had so much potential- nearly all of which was wasted.

Sons of Anarchy is another show that I'd avoid watching even though it's good in parts. Just incredibly frustrating and inconsistent.
