How do you guys pull this off?

I mean, I totally get it; I "work" 40 hours a week and actually work about 5 hours a week. How do you get your employer to agree?

after 10 yrs of poker and no job, I have been pretty happy to actually have a job to show up at. and I am pretty anti social and weird. I think the key is to be an OLD so theres really nothing better to do.

I mean I'm able to get by with a bit of laziness here and there, but I still work pretty hard. I'm pretty baffled by some of this - not seeing your boss for 3 years?? Joke's on me I guess.

It's not a matter of them agreeing. You slowly realize over time that either A. They don't care or B. They don't know

For the last year or so I've been doing contract work, probably 70% of it writing grant proposals. It's been very odd, my hours are all weird because I'll get hired for like 2 weeks to do 70 hours or so of work and maybe 20 hours of that is collaborative at some workplace, the rest I do whenever I want. So I'll put in a solid 4 hours from 11pm to 3am and next thing I know I'm completely out of touch with "normals" working 8-5. I actually don't care for it, even though my grind it out lawyer friends like to tell me how great I have it. It's also very spotty, I'll get a job for like 10 days and make enough to pay rent for four months but then won't do anything again for like 6 weeks. I honestly don't really like it much and kind of yearn for the old 8-5 at a biotech because in general science people are fantastic and we **** off all the time and do about an hour and a half of true work. A bunch of smart screw-offs in a lab makes for some interesting surprises, usually involving various things blowing up.

Man I think I slack off from time to time but apparently I’m a model citizen compared to some people.

I think this is kinda why teachers deserve summer break. You can't really take "mental" days off when you're teaching (maybe wiper disagrees). When I transitioned to teaching like my 3rd Friday I remember thinking wtf I actually have to ~work~ today. Like the kids are gonna be here and even if they don't learn anything I have to make sure they're sitting in chairs for 50 minutes. And these are Korean kids much more conditioned to behave well than american kids.

**** yes I agree with you. **** is overwhelming most days.

you probably wouldn’t know it to talk to me during the day, but whenever I’m done I’m exhausted 4/5 days a week.

that ain’t me saying it’s “hard” or that I actually deserve 3.5 months off a year, but ask a standard stay at home mom how tired they are by 4pm and tell them to multiply their kids by 8 and holler at me. Sporting Events FAQ, Liveblog, and BANGERS

I def take ‘mental health days’, but I know that isn’t what you meant. bc yes, there really isn’t any downtime and until you learn how to deal with that, you’re gonna have a bad time.

I’m not lazy, I’m not pulling anything over on anyone. I work hard, I just do it for a company that values getting stuff done, doesn’t care about looking busy, and doesn’t have a bloated corporate structure of people needlessly breathing down each others necks just to justify their own jobs.

Ime people LOVE to ***** and moan about their lives and WORK is the GOAT subject for that. 99% of people have some kind of job or want one so everybody can share a word on the subject and since the avg person thinks THEY DESERVE BETTER it leads to a echo chamber of complaints and whines. I mean, maybe the only topic an old a hipster and a yuppie could discuss amicably is the HASSLE of having to work

Ya, I want my girl in glistening root beer.

AFAIK they're actually shit quality diamonds that have been talked up by brilliant marketing
Of course you could say that about diamonds in general, shrug

Christmas songs rankings

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas
Walking in a winter wonderland

Rockin around the Christmas tree
Santa Claus is coming to town
Let it snow
Jingle bell rock

All I want for Christmas is you
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Those songs are pretty much all woat with the exception of White Christmas. Gotta go traditional carols for Christmas. Emmanuel, Gloria, that kinda thing.

Christmas in Australia is weird. Shops here play songs like White Christmas even though it literally never snows here and is like 100 degrees out right now.

for decades diamonds were marketed based on their clarity (i.e. lack of color)
all of a sudden the diamond pimps are trying to convince the target market (looking at you kobe bryant's wife after he raped a hotel maid in portland) that diamonds of color are the new hottest thing.
i love lots of things about Spouse, but one of the things i truly appreciate is she never got caught up in the biggest diamond, biggest wedding, biggest whatever other bull**** everyone else wants you to believe is important to make your life enjoyable and 'successful'.
