Who is Wigan? Has Liverpool or the like been in a relegation battle?

Not since the Premier League started like 20 years ago or w/e (although the beginning of this season was dire for them lol). Man U has never done worse than 3rd. But there are usually solid sides that can have a bad season like Newcastle was fighting for top 4 (which usually means champions league spot) last year very late into the season, they finished 5th, but currently they are only 4 points out of the relegation zone. I have only been following soccer for about 3 years now but I would imagine that would be a complete disaster for the fanbase. Odds are like 12-1 to go down I think but it's possible and would be a massive shock to the fans.

Pretty much every team has been relegated at some point. Liverpool in 1954 (took 3 years to get back up), man utd were relegated as recently as 1974. Newcastle in 2009 were expected to finish in the top half of the league, and were relegated.

Leeds utd reached the semi final of the champions league in 2001 and then relegated in 2003. they were then relegated AGAIN in 2006, and spent a number of years in the third tier of football.

Going the opposite direction, Wigan were in the 4th tier in the 90s, won promotion 3 times and have now been in the premier league for 7 straight years (although relegation is looking very possible this year as usual). Man City, last years PL winners, were also in the 4th tier as recently as 1998.

Newcastle went down in 2009. It was one of the best moments of that season. I think they bought too well this January for it to happen again. Relegation going to be tense this year. Not sure if Wigan can pull it off again. Hope they do though

For all Americans asking hypothetically which team their friend should support. The answer is Chelsea.

But those are all exceptions obviously. These days, at the start of a season, about 1/4 the teams have ~0% chance to be relegated and the rest range anywhere from 'almost certainly safe' (liverpool) to 'we are ****ed' (lolQPR)

It obviously won't happen for financial reasons, but I'd like to see the MLB season rolled back to 154 games. Keep the World Series in mid-October, none of this November ****.

Indeed!

That said, best moment of the year for sure was our victory vs Chelsea, when SWP stuck it to them. Even when we get relegated, I'm still happy.

we should definitely relegate bad posters to the STST forum. They can then relegate their bad posters to Fantasy Sports who can relegate to Draft Day. Why haven't we been doing this already?

I propose we start with the following:

SE: Everyone who has been mentioned on fewer than 5 independent instances in the bad posters thread and has over 100 posts in the forum except posters classified elsewhere.

STST: Euros who post primarily about soccer and new posters (fewer than 100 SE posts).

Fantasy Sports: Karak and everyone with greater than 5 mentions in the bad posters thread except the 10 posters with the most mentions.

Draft Day: 10 posters with the most mentions in the bad posters thread.

Every month send your top 10% up 1 forum and bottom 10% down one forum. Top and bottom poster get 2 forums of promotion or relegation each month.

On Joe Rogan's forum, they just have a "kunt" farm for bad posters. I would love to see a SE equivalent.

That can't be the first time you said something so epically stupid.

Yeah, the only real argument against this that I care for is the November finish. That is lame. They should stop being pussies and go back to scheduling the occasional Sunday doubleheader to slightly compress the season. At worst roll back to 154 games like it used to be a long time ago, but no more than that. Bulk stats mean something. A 100 win season means something (as does 60 in the NBA, an accomplishment which generally indicates a title-worthy team). If there are too many games for you, don't watch them all. Problem solved.

Good news is the owners are greedy bastards and would almost certainly never let it happen.

I think I might have gotten a few Bank of America employees fired today.

I am buying a condo and have had insane problems with the lender getting the paperwork done and already missed one closing date and tomorrow's is in jeopardy too due to the bank. Because the people I dealt with decided to give me answers like "thats how the system works" and "there is no person that analyzes this, its just the computer and takes 48-72 hours" I decided to put it to the test and emailed Brian Moynihan (the CEO). He replied in 6 minutes and CC'd his head of mortgages who replied in 1 minute and said he would have someone on his team look into it first thing. Somehow this lady, a SVP, has been in constant contact with me this morning and the two people I had previously dealt with have found a way to make the system work a lot faster while apologizing for the process and lack of clear communication and saying they wished they had certain information sooner (despite not informing me that they needed it). Hopefully this works.
