Does anybody buy OnStar/Garmin or SiriusXM satellite radio for their cars? By anyone I mean people aged like 23-40. I'm old and I hate technology so I have no idea if kids my age use this stuff.

Satellite Radio for the car has reached RedZone channel of necessity for me. Absolute must have.

OnStar looks pretty expensive. Looks like $99 installed and $19/mo.

Garmin I guess is a one-time purchase of $379 for a Nuvi and no monthly fee.

SiriusXM looks to be $80 for an Onyx car kit (?) and $199 annual subscription.

Sound about right? I'm doing a presentation on vehicle ownership costs analysis comparing new car to used car and I want to include things that people actually spend to "operate" their vehicle. The OnStar cost is excessive so I don't want to include it if it's not relevant to people under the age of 75.

I don't know **** about Garmin or OnStar b/c before I got internet phone I used a 20 year old Rand McNally paper map of the US and never had any issues. I realize most people aren't as good with directions though and require such things.

smartphones have effectively killed both. everybody has gps on their phones and everybody can store a ****load of music on their phones.
