The eclipse was a decent way to spend 10 mins with coworkers outside. But I don't really get people who see it as some life-changing experience.

For me, reading a high quality space book with large images is significantly cooler by an order of magnitude.

Yup. I can't imagine not seeing it at 100%. Had to drive about 20 minutes to get a good spot and decent totality time. Definitely will be in the middle for 2024.

I drove 8 hours each way from my home back in 2002. That's how we roll here in Straya, everything is ****ing miles from everything else. That was all in the same state and it would be another 5 hours drive to reach the state border. STRAYA.

To be fair, a friend was teaching in the remote town where it happened, so the trip doubled as a chance to pay her a visit. She had two spare rooms we could sleep in, and one of my friends was such a bad snorer that he slept in one room and the other 8 of us all slept in the other. Good times.

tbh, i get the sense that nobody in aus does that almost ever, massive road trips are way more of an american thing afaik

america's physically similar in size to aus, without 90% of it being worthless wasteland, that means that there's more places where it's viably worth it to drive instead of fly. aus has like 5 relevant places and lol at trying to drive between them when flights are like $100

Thunderstorms are eclipses with additional lightning.

OMG where's the sun?! Oh yea behind something like always. OMG it's dark during the day! Being dark only happens half the time I'm alive. Wow!

Anyone been to BELIZE?

Is the blue hole actually worth seeing? I'm not staying near ambergris caye and will instead be on another island way south of Belize city so going inland would require a boat and drive which seems like a pita. Sort of don't want to base my entire trip on proximity to the hole if it's just whatever.

Yeah it's been kind of frustrating hearing from the non-totality viewers the last couple days with their "mehs" and "too hyped" and all. Probably more so because those of us who saw it in totality get it. I was totally unimpressed leading up to it, looking through the glasses and slowly watching the moon's blockage increase was very ho-hum. Then the damn thing covered it and it was next level, I even let out an involuntary "Oh my god" and don't think many of those crazy reactions you see on TV are staged or acting.

I read the scuba diving/snorkeling there is wack too (relative to nearby options). Will prob end up skipping it
