Just got back from the nightvet.

Here's the little moron hiding in my car motor. Solid plan.

Here she is in the trap which is a little big for her:

Getting worked up. No AIDS, no leukemia, no parasites, not dehydrated. Couple of bad cuts. Looks like she got stuck in some hot asphalt or something.

Nice man, wife and I rescued the goofball in the bed a couple weeks ago but we're at capacity for animals so found him a good home. The one on the right in the 2md pic is our desert dirt that she found after work 4 years ago out in Joshua Tree.

Been buying up records this summer after getting a pretty decent turntable for my birthday. Listening to the original pressing of Born In the USA this morning, still plays really well. Did people consider it a patriotic song right away? I was pretty young when it came out. Because actually listening to the song, it's pretty unpatriotic, lol. Sort of the opposite of what people intend it to be.

The mid-80s weren't really a high-water mark for the appreciation of irony in these United States and we were in a collective period of chest-beating patriotism. Also, the radio was unfathomably poor at the time. Perfect storm.

But did vets get behind it? Against it? Because I could sort of see how if the vets were down with the song, it would quickly sort of morph into a pro troops song and then the jump to pro USA is easy and almost logical. I actually only remember Reagan on the TV talking about Manuel Noriega, drugs, and commies. 'Nam exposure was basically Deer Hunter/Platoon/Apocalypse Now.

Not to worry--I was a wise old 8 at the time. People only knew the chorus. There wasn't google back then to look up lyrics. A lot of professional wrestling montages were set to that song.

Oh man that I actually remember. Wasn't Hulk Hogan though right? I think he had some rip-off like "I am a real Americaaaaaan" (edit: yeah that came out in 1985, one year later...)

I`ll read any genre. Fiction, non fiction, fantasy, old classics, crime. My amazon basket contains just a few Murakami books, and a couple of the GoT side books atm.

I'd recommend starting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone then reading the subsequent 6 books in the series.
