isn't the surgery and recovery much more brutal than everything except the initial tear? Is it impossible to get around without having the surgery?

There risk of degenerative arthritis is much higher for people who don't get the repair, and virtually assured if you're young.

Nothing, but you can google yourself if you want a real doctors opinion.

Went through the same process about two years ago, but the MRI came back with some cartilage damage, not an acl tear.

makes sense. I was wondering what the incentive was given that people seemed able to get around on the tear and then suffer through the rehab after the surgery.

I also want an intact ACL to be able to continue playing sports at a reasonably high level.

Yeah, you need that acl to move side to side.

Keeps your knee from scraping bone and vice versa. The elasticity of ligaments are what makes our limbs move.

lol ligaments

The cruciate ligaments keep the tibia (shin) from sliding forward or backward relative to the femur (thigh).

The worst part of rehab for me was definitely the first few days, trying to regain full extension of the knee was pretty agonizing (towel under the heel, no support under knee for 15 minutes several times a day).

wifey and I were in cleveland and had run back to the hotel room I think to smoke a joint before going back out.

most brutal sports for ACL injuries:

1. Aussie Rules - bunch of dudes who's done it 2, 3 times, there's this one kid who's now done it 4 times. All where the best paid players make like 1.3m a year

2. soccer

3-912491-infinity: everything else

research how to rehab. my drs were idiot pussys and i had pain and stability issues for years.

and really, just do a bunch of squats and get strong after. dont bother with all the idiot rehab pts that are used to dealing with useless geriatrics.

the rehab really isnt that hard. its rilly effin boring. like, the first week sucks, make sure you get your flexibility back. i stacked a bunch of books and then eventually weights on top of my knee so that it would straighten to 0 degrees. wasnt very comfortable.
