I think the only part of the bet that needs to be figured out is if it is possible to eat $300 of hot food from McDonalds. If this is possible, the other $700 should be easy.

The $200 in salads is essentially a free $200, and I'm assuming the $500 worth of apple slices is where the trick in this bet is involved. People are assuming that him saying $500 worth of apple slices means he's just going to buy nothing but apple slices. My assumption is that he's able to order something as an "add-on" to his order of apple slices that will increase the cost. Ex: Apple slices with a dipping sauce add on or apple slices with some sort of add on side.

The side action being 20X his actual action and there also being a charity go-fund-me that's supposedly getting matched adds several levels to this where maybe he is just going to lose miserably and it's all for attention.
