Ambush did you even read that article?

Davilla is still registered as a referee but failed to make the physical fitness requirements to be actively involved this season

Re: Random soccer/football discussion thread

The article said he didn't pass the fitness test and he will retire as a ref when this gets official. I don't see a problem, I guess you want to indicate that they talked a about a deal like that some time ago and he therefore favoured Real in the matches they were involved.

@derwipok: I do not want to indicate any such thing

@cashy: He obviously can't be a referee anymore, getting paychecks from Madrid...

edit: oh and I obv read that he's injured but I'm assuming that it wasn't a career threatening injury, referees don't usually retire at 44(?), no?

Which is obviously retarded. Hopefully someone will successfully take that to the European courts soon. If they are still a decent referee and are still fit enough, who cares how old they are?

Oh and bring back Collina ldo

Re: Random soccer/football discussion thread

I totally agree, instead of fitnes test + age they should just use the fitness test, if a referee is 55 and is still fit and good enough he should be allowed to be a referee.

Yeah, Chelsea, united, liverpool and arsenal having been cleaning up on all the loop holes in the laws and that fact the most european countries cant offer a contract till they are 18. In france they can sign an "elite contract" till they get to 18 (or 16 not sure).

Chelsea got in so much trouble because they encourage the player to brake to contract by throwing money at him. It has happend loads of time in the past, normally clubs just settled out of court with compensation, but this is 1st time a team just turned around and said no thanks.

Re: Random soccer/football discussion thread

@Ceire: what's with the hate? I don't remember bashing you..

Obviously I figured Real Madrid should have just hired a retired referee, but apparently it doesn't matter much since he's only a year or two away from his retirement (he's actually 43) of which he'll miss the first due to injury - assuming that the forced retirement age is also 44-45 in Spain. Here in Holland I don't think there's a certain age limit and if there is it's at least 55. I don't think there's a need for any such restriction tbh.

There's something in this picture that might suggest otherwise.

Re: Random soccer/football discussion thread

lol

I'm referring to this season i.e 2009/2010. Never been the kind of guy that talks about previous accomplishments and trophies when trying to compare clubs in the present.

Sure, you should be proud of your clubs history, but it doesn't really affect the current state of the clubs.

Re: Random soccer/football discussion thread

Which set of fans is it that constantly make fun of Liverpool fans for always mentioning Trophies won 30 years ago?
