ANDRE-PIERRE GIGNAC GOAT

leg 1 ended 2-2 with Gignac scoring two goals in the last 10mins of the match.

feeling really really good about my bet. tigres clearly better. can't wait for leg 2 lines to come out. will be pounding the Tigres ML if i see it anywhere over +150. the mexican betting site has the Tigres ML for leg 2 at +195 so i truly hope i see something close to that.

i make the greatest bet of my life and i lose it. so pissed because tigres didn't get a clear penalty call at the end of the game that would have sent it to ET. sickening

Pretty cool that chapecoense is undefeated and in 1st thru 4

Why does every Brazilian team have Caixa as a sponsor?

anyone else watching brazil - argentina?

Yep I watched most of it. Good game, could have gone either way. Argentina looking a little better under Sampaoli but good game from Brazil too considering we only had 4 starters and no Neymar.

Diego with goal and assist to put flamengo up 2-0 on chapecoense inside 22 min. He's still got it

He's not even that old... 32. Surprised me a bit too. Puts in perspective how damn young he was when he was GOATing at Werder.

He added a 2nd goal later on that game

He was a teammate of Robinho when they goated aged 17/18 at Santos. Never been a pair like that since. I was 15 or 16 years old when staying up late to watch copa libertadores with them so I am more surprised Robinho is done.

Been in Mexico City and went to the Liga MX home opener for each of América, Pumas and Cruz Azul. I decided I would support whoever impressed me the most.

América
Kits: the new ones are bad, though they just had a 100yr kit that was sweet.
Stadium: Azteca is awesome, though a little too big for regular league games at about 85,000.
Team: I've seen them twice now. Played a ball holding and dirty style, not attractive at all.
Fans: The core fan section is pretty good. The rest of the fans really are pretty lame and seem quasi-entitled. I expected much more.
History: Tons of it. One of the dominant historical teams in the league.
Name: América is a pretty damn awesome name especially with the entire continent of both North and South on the logo.

Pumas
Kits: They have an awesome huge Puma on the front. Colors are Navy and gold which I learned is due to some specific history (more later)
Stadium: Olympic Stadium which is also sweet. Though the lower level is very old school "bowl" style making sightlines difficult. Capacity of 50,000 is pretty perfect.
Team: they played aggressive and well. Very entertaining.
Fans: The fans are amazing. Entire stadium changing, very active and fun. Top marks.
History: This is actually the team of University of Mexico. As such they play in the university campus (which includes Olympic Stadium (which is used for track and field events too)). They actually do intros with American football helmets due to history in the 50's with the University of Notre Dame which helped them set up a US style football team. The team colors are an homage to this. They have cheerleaders too. Amazing!
Name: freaking Pumas. Can't hate on big cats.

Cemento Cruz Azul
Kits: a sweet deep blue and still sponsored by the cement company that founded them 80 years ago or so! On the downside, it's got a giant blue cross that makes everyone look like an ambulance worker.
Stadium. Smaller and modern seating, 40,000 and not a bad seat in the house. No video board unlike the others. They move to Azteca next year.
Team: played a good aggressive style early then parked bus and got lucky to escape with a draw vs Chivas Guadalajara. Even up a man later on they looked awful.
Fans: the sellout crowd was only 35% Cruz fans. The rest Chivas. Embarrassing!
History: awesome story of being the team of the cement collective community and still representing. They've had plenty of success. Cool story!!
Name: super cool.

Verdict: The superior team play and fan passion really made this not close. PUMAS with their college passion and atmosphere were awesome and clearly the most deserving of my support going forward.

Nice one Clark

When I read thought first I thought America was the team you were choosing. They seem like the absolute WOAT team to support. Pumas a clear favorite of those 3 from afar. gj

nice decision clark. of those 3 teams, Pumas definitely is the best option. option still sucks tho.

so jealous that you've been to more liga MX stadiums than i have. i've only ever been to the toluca stadium, but i think i'm gonna be in mexico city in late september so may be able to go to Azteca for the super clasico of America Chivas and maybeee a Pumas Cruz Azul game at Universitario.

Liga MX followers: did Leon get Carlos Felipe Rodríguez to back up Yarbrough? Seems like one of them is too good to not start.

Yes, the plan was for Carlos Felipe to back up Yarbrough, which was lol because Carlos Felipe is better, and now that Yarbrough has lost his starting spot due to poor play (from what i heard, didn't actually watch), I don't see him winning it back. Carlos Felipe is legit good. way better gk than his fat overrated cousin Moy Munoz. but who knows. looks like Leon is gonna sack their manager any day now due to poor results so it'll be up to the new manager on who plays.
