Sadly, people like that stuff. They love conflict, they love grandstanding, they love pointed, extreme opinions and judging others. They don't like reasoned "well, either team could win if....." type of stuff. Without getting into any political debate, is there any better evidence of people liking that stuff than Rush Limbaugh?
This is a great post. I'm glad someone else remembers Stephen A. in his brief ESPN appearances before he was hired and at CNN/SI because he was fantastic.
Honestly, the success of ESPN seems to have changed ESPN a significant amount. Prior to the start of PTI, there wasn't nearly as much debating but now it's like that's all that they know how to do. Even the NFL draft now has to be debated by Kiper and McShay for 8 months a year.
