Sean McDonough mentioned as front runner to take spot on Monday Night Football. McDonough is the world's worst announcer, bar none. He just reads stats and offers zero to the telecast. No insights at all. If it is McDonough and Gruden, this will be one great trainwreck, as it was already tough to get through. McDonough is the worst, but he did have one decent call this past year on the Michigan Michigan State folly. He makes the British Open unwatchable each year when he does golf.

McDonough is right there with the Saturday early college football announcer (female). No insights. No subtle references. No experience from any history of playing, or even of announcing. Total garbage and unwatchable. A no emotion stat reader. I sure hope he gets the job...so the world can appreciate how awful he is.

In another story, one female producer — who had been to dinner with Tirico and his fiancee — was startled to receive an email from him saying that he wanted to sleep with her. Later, when the staff went to a bar after a late night covering the NCAA tournament, Tirico approached her and said, "I wish I was single. If I were, I'd throw you on the table right here and **** your brains out." After she tried to excuse him as drunk, he persisted: "I know you want to screw me. So let's leave." Later, he followed her on the highway and tried to get her to pull over, unsuccessfully.

Early candidates to replace Tirico include the returning Dennis Miller, and the returning Tony Kornheiser.

I see the name a lot from all the Boston slappies here and in the media but I always forget who he is.

Saw the face now tho, I like that guy too. And no one is more bland than Tirico, he's decent on TV but I'm so biased against him that it distorts my reality. On the radio he was about as bad as it gets, so vanilla.

He got the prime radio slot after Dan Patrick left. I think they might've loosely paired him w/ Linda Cohn, it was someone. Then Scott Van Pelt started coming on regularly. Then it became Tirico and Van Pelt. Then we all know Scott ended up with the show by himself, followed later by Russillo formally being added.

But Tirico on radio? He's bad, like real bad. Joe Buck TV show bad.

I like SM too - and good riddance to Tirico's pedantic style.

I'm pretty sure the most important quality of the replacement is that they are willing to go by Mike, so can Gruden doesn't have to catch himself mid-syllable on the "I tell ya"s

Except for the channel 4 team I pretty much just zone out and don't even listen to the telecast guys anymore.

Collinsworth and mixhaels are real good though, so I pay attention to them.

Didn't ESPN recently free up Ray Lewis from some of his duties? I can think of few people that I'd rather see in the booth with Gruden.

Sean McDonough is easier to listen to then Tirico.

Added bonus. No more Tirico at the Masters either. Now if we could just get rid of Rinaldi

Does it really matter from espn/mnf's perspective? It's not like they're going to gain or lose viewers just from the play by play guy. As long as he's competent, I don't think it really changes viewership that much.

Tirico is complete ****

That being said everyone hated Tim mccarver and thought when he retired there was nowhere to go but up. Turns out you can always do much much much worse than just terrible

Tim McCarver isn't actually retired and does some games on local Cardinals broadcasts.

Just want to say that I kind of like McDonough, while OP isn't wrong that he isn't too flavorful, he also doesn't say really stupid **** like so many others do.

And JFC at that Tirico story.

Who replaced him?

It's always so weird to me that the old broadcaster was Bob Gibsons catcher.

Can't believe this thread is more about McDonough and not about Tirico chasing a producer down in his car, trying to get her to pull off the freeway so that he might insert his penis into her body.

Oh, that Tirico stuff is from 25 years ago. I never heard about that. I assumed it was from a month ago and was the reason behind his departure.
