so my basic hope for GoT now is it runs out like oceans's 11 (the new soderbergh edition).

This episode was clooney, pitt, damon, don cheadle and the trying to get the pinch to the city in extremely lol plan with matt damon also running around like a dick.

Maybe they'll pull it all together next week. They dont have soderbergh as a director though. oceans 11 was still good

Agree. I think the show fell into the trap of Michael Bayism - like, people lauded the amazing cinematics and action scenes and stuff but the REASON those were so powerful was the STORY which was built up through narrative, non-action packed scenes.

If they just ****ed over the Drago (TM) budget and instead made this a reasonable season with reasonable timelines the show would be better. And cost less.

It seemed that winter was, finally, here. In the 18 episodes since that series-defining battle, the White Walkers have been roaming the lands north of the Wall, in no hurry to do … whatever it is they’re doing up there. There are no wildlings left to help build the army of the dead, and no explanation for why the White Walkers have putzed around for so long. Besides an attack on the Three-Eyed Raven’s hangout in Season 6, the Others have gone back to their usual role on the show: Thrones’ ultimate MacGuffin. They drive the plot, but only from the shadows.
This is what drives us all crazy. Either make the timeline different or change the speed of whats happening, hardhome feels like eons ago

The White Walkers are waiting for the long winter to begin. Doesn't seem particularly difficult to understand. They aren't (can't?) going to go charging south of the wall if its not winter.

you have this exactly backwards. The White Walkers are the cause of the long winter, not the result of it.

whoo boy

think everyone has already noted most of the most LOL stuff about that episode, which was fun to watch and also abominably stupid

it is worth noting that Jon is now 2 for 2 in rushing into impossible battles and having to be saved (first by Sansa, then by Dany), and worth noting that Tormund gives a solid speech about Mance's hubris killing people but somehow hasn't learned that Jon's hubris and apathy about being alive has twice killed people even more recklessly

Jon is a stone idiot

Also worth noting that the most OP thing in the entire show is currently chilling at Winterfell doing nothing - Bran is omniscient but offers no assistance at all, seems legit.

Also, small things - Jon just not communicating with Sansa or Dany until he's about to die (?), ravens traveling all over the seven kingdoms in hours, Arya just a weird character now, was honestly thinking she's more like one of THE RAM's hounds than a human, and then I ASSUME she gave Sansa the Valyrian steel dagger to protect herself and as something of a make-up maneuver but it didn't come off like that at all

WHERE THE **** IS GHOST

the ice problems are just absolutely massive, that was new ice yet somehow stronger than the old ice that already broke under less weight, there's no reason ice would be thawing or weak enough BEYOND THE WALL to break in the first place, kudos to whoever noted that those CHAINS were pretty surprising, lol at Night King's target selection, lol at the stupid staff CURVING as it flew toward Drogon (could've at least taken a couple riders with it)

total lol at the rock incident, it seemed to me that the thing to fear would be the zombies throwing infinite rocks at the idiots in the middle of the lake, but then when I noticed Night King has heat seeking **** IT I'M GOING DEEP REX GROSSMAN SPEARS I just kinda threw up my hands - you do you, bro, no need to just aimbot the un-sheltered and defenseless idiots with your HEAT SEEKING SPEARS that fly about 9,000 mph when you can instead grimly stare at them

also no need to, as mentioned ad nauseum, spear Drogon as he's sitting there with like 8 morons surrounding him

just a frustrating series of events and really poor writing - and the dumbest thing of ALL is that the show is presently hinged upon whether CERSEI'S COOPERATION can be had. lol? Are you kidding me? After all of this, Cersei PLAYING BALL is the thing that is foremost in Dany and Tyrion and Jon's minds? Really?

TRASH.

HOWEVER, I will give the writers this one olive branch - the problem of "how to convince people of the Night King threat" is a hard one. There isn't a quick and easy way to get people on a dragon flying over the wall to see for themselves. Bran's ravens can only show HIM things, not anyone else (right?).

And the target of this campaign is Cersei? She believes nothing anyone tells her that doesn't benefit her. She cooperates with absolutely no one. What better than, I guess, bringing her a zombie? You can't get her there without a kidnapping storyline that would demand like 3 episodes, and she would just turn that against everyone else and backstab them after they abandoned the Seven Kingdoms to fight the Night King anyway. So wtf are they supposed to do to try to convince her of anything?

It's a stupid plot hole to make Cersei's acceptance of the threat of winter A Thing That Matters™. It doesn't matter - her army is garbage, her claim is garbage, she's insane, and Dany can end her whenever she likes. Team Human™ is not a team Cersei would ever be likely to play on, and I reject that any of Tyrion, Dany or Jon would ever think she possibly would.

I think, like almost every show, is I am most disappointed in how the show completely lured me in and I loved it only for it to become ****ing ridiculous and stupid.

The only show that didn't do this at all was Breaking Bad. Even the Wire had a massive dropoff in the last season. It's excusable because seasons 3 and 4 were the peak of television, and the GOATiest of GOATs, but still, it was big dropoff with some unreasonable and silly plot devices that didn't exist elsewhere.

Kudos to Breaking Bad. Likely the greatest show that will ever be made.

A lot of the plot holes vanish if Bran is on team whitewalker. Then he's giving perfect info to the night king by warging into birds + morse code. so his power isn't being wasted. The perfect info could cause a decision to delay. Maybe an ice dragon helps them get past the wall.

why didn't the writers just make cersei's army more formidable so that getting cersei on their side actually makes some sense?

Lets make some rationalisations ITT.

This is what I got.

Ice King did not use spears on Snow Patrol because he only has a few and why waste them when he considers the undead as very expendable.

Working on the Ice.

Dont really know enough about ice, but surely even ice where its pretty cold can be broken by an army of undead people standing on it? So is the ice thing even that bad? dunno?

What bothers me about the ice is why Snow Patrol did not actively try and keep it from freezing.

Hound smashed a big hole in it with his hammer, why not just keep smashing it so there was no access onto there shelter rock?

This season's episodes' pace makes it feel like watching hour-long "earlier on game of thrones" retrospectives from earlier seasons

Right. That occurred to me too. They're just hanging out not doing anything, trying not to freeze. How about staying warm by hammering out a moat around their area as a safety net?

Was watching on cable so FF through that encounter since the dragons were obviously coming, making everything up until their arrival pointless foreplay.

the Bran and Arya "arcs" have suffered as a consequence of the light speed the show is going on. Just this season Arya has acted like a total spaced out weirdo (with Hot Pie), a regular teenager type (with Ed Sheeren), and now is a pissed off sister. I have absolutely no sense of who Arya is at any point.

Bran is Luke Skywalker before visiting Yoda (filled with power he doesn't know how to use), but the show hasn't explained this well at all. they have just made him into...a weirdo.

it only became a hard problem as a consequence of the writers choosing the keep the White Walkers lounging around all these seasons. it's a pacing problem the writers failed at. they needed to explain it FAST bc Dany is here now and they've killed all the other plotlines.

(who knows how this plays out in the books, but it's probably something like: Stannis takes Winterfell from the Boltons, then immediately falls under siege from the White Walkers who have advanced past the wall. he sends ravens South where people like Sam are who believe him. either way, the answer is not "kidnap a zombie")

lol at Breaking Bad being great. Literally the only thing that was alluring about Breaking Bad is that otherwise trustworthy people said it was good so some idiots (lol me) got tricked into watching it.

I'm pretty convinced that the idea of Breaking Bad being worth watching at all, much less an elite show, is just a world class troll that a large portion of society was in on.

it's all a theory, but one supported pretty well in the text. the White Walkers ARE the cold, the bringers of death. the last Long Night ended when they were defeated.
