Agree with OAFK about the pacing. What I don't understand is why they're in such a mad rush to wrap up the series is it not legit the no #1 show on TV?

Hasn't GOT had this formula every season. Setup the season slow and build up to sick episodes during the penultimate episode or the finale? Last night wasn't great but it was expected.

It's usually a 10 so season. This season. Between intro and credits it's like 50 min x 7. And we just wasted 10+ minutes on Sam cleaning poop.

S1E1 had a lot happen (opened with Others jacking dudes up, Ned beheaded a guy, little kid pushed from a tower), but I just got done binge-watching the rest of the seasons and I can't recall anything significant in the other premieres. They run together after a while though.

Man it's hard to believe the show opened with Walkers and now it has taken over six years for them to sorta think about maybe attacking the Wall.

Totally agree that the Sam thing was complete aids again. We get it, we can fill in the blanks. Sam will learn some useful stuff which will prove to be critical. We don't need 15% of each episode dedicated to him doing chores and reading books to understand that. I assume GRRM had some sort of deal in the contract that Sam RR Martin would get the most air time. And I still don't know why Gilly needs to exist as a character. Complete waste of space.

(e.g. Euron building 1000 ships in no time flat with no apparent resources, Varys sailing back & forth across the sea like he's trying to figure out which of Jackson Hole/Mountain View is closer to Meereen, etc)

The problem with the ships is bigger than that, we already know the Iron Islands (Isles? whatever tf) lack both manpower and lumber for the building of 1,000 ships. And we already know that he hasn't had years to complete the task of building 1,000 ships. And then *poof* 1,000 ships. Seems impossible in a bunch of ways - temporally, materials, manpower. Time warp supreme.

She's getting massively slowplayed by Little Finger and has been terrible from day 1. LOL at SANSA having a clue about anything

Sansa has lots of ANGER and CONFUSION. Her only out to not sucking is getting fed up with altruistic Jon and going chaos laddering w/LF.

This was foreshadowed somewhat with her comments re: lolStarks and how she learned a lot from Cersei.

I think it's feasible for multiple years to have passed between when he made that speech and his meeting with Cersei. We've had enough time for Yara and Theon to travel to Essos, find Dany, and convince her to join them. Meanwhile Varys traveled back to Westeros, convinced the Martells and Tyrrells to join Dany, brought their fleet across the ocean, got Dany and her army loaded, and brought the fleet BACK to Westeros. Sure it happened a bit quickly in our time, but it could have been several (apparently boring) years in their time.

It would have been nice to cut out a few minutes of Sam and have an update on the shipbuilding during all of that, but whatever.

I'm sure someone out there had made an attempt to map out the timeframe. There are common denominators that you can use to tie together *most* of the scenes to some degree

the problem is - it doesn't really matter. from a viewers perspective, Euron asks for 1,000 ships, snaps his fingers, and boom he has a thousand ships. it sure doesn't *seem* like he asked for those 1,000 ships 3 years ago, even if in some elaborate timeline the showrunners have created (lol that that exists) it technically could makes sense.

or, if they don't convey the passage of time as anything specific (or even in general), it's not fair to use as a justification. they can't just say "but it's been 3 years since he asked for those ships" when it's not something they make any attempt to discuss

think how many **** pots Sam had to dump in the time it took to build 1000 ships?
