Lemmings on the amiga was a huge contributing factor to me dropping out of uni.

The other factor being that I was rubbish at Law

I mean of course the fights are completely ridicilous in a real sense. Turning your back to your opponent is a death sentence. All that kicking seems really stupid.

It probably wouldn't be "good TV" if it was even semi-realistic fight with the weapons of the era they have. Two rows of people flailing at each other, getting a bit mixed up maybe in the battle. The losers of "duels" succumb to their wounds or runs out of stamina to keep flailing (probably both), falls down and gets stabbed. (btw why almost nobody has a shield or a helmet, seriously guys...).

Or you could just roll with it. Just like in every movie and series from that "era" of fighting.

It seems pretty thick wall and Jon did lie about the numbers of the rangers. Also rangers cut off the trees near the wall so they might run out of lumber and building a bonfire while oil/arrows is raining down might not seem a good idea.

Well, it makes sense why the wildlings are short on shields/equipment. They've been travelling for who knows how long/far, have limited supplies etc. I guess the Knights Watch is similar in being under equipped, but they have less of an excuse.

But yes, I realize the answer to that is it doesn't work with the plot.
The answer is that they have basically nobody who knows how to sail any kind of boat larger than a rowboat. They're wildlings, they don't build much of anything and they don't know how to operate boats. Ygritte seems like one of the more knowledgeable wildlings and she still thought a 20 foot high windmill was a giant castle some lord lived in, remember? They really can't build ****. And the night's watch does keep manned castles at both ends of the wall.

As for 'Why they attack just the one point on the wall'. This was just an initial feint, and they can send individual groups over the wall or around the wall with ease. In fact, they already did that, remember? They sent some of their best over/around the wall to attack castle black from the south. They can't do it with everyone because Mance has a massive ****ing horde of people, and most of them aren't warriors, they're old/women/children/randoms.

Remember that they're not trying to be conquerors, but they're going because Mance knows what is up with the Others. He was able to unite them by telling them they'd all be dead if they stayed above the wall. They're running, and so they've got a huge amount of useless bodies. They NEED to take a gate, they can't send everyone and their supplies in a couple of boats, or over the wall, etc. And they did attempt to send some of their best over the wall in advance to soften the way.

the wildlings don't have any smithing technology so the only armor (and really the only good weapons) they get is stolen or illicitly traded from people south of the wall. The NW, on the other hand, absolutely should have had some armor and shields, but lol production values on that one.

Maybe this is LDO (and discussed elsewhere on the internet but I do not care to search these things) but on rewatch of the last episode I realized that Sam Tarly is GRRM.

Also there was some discussion earlier about flaming arrows. That isn't just something done for TV, it's so the archer can see where the arrow goes to know if he is aiming properly.

I always think about this on other shows but it shouldn't be much of an issue for the NW. They all dress in black and they're 102 men living together permanently without random any distractions. They obviously know each other and being up close in battle, even at night, would be a lot different than TV viewers trying to distinguish men during a sword fight when the camera is at a medium length shot. I do think the wildlings would be pretty likely to mess this up though and kill their own people. Or anyone involved with a battle like Blackwater or Robbs victory at the Green Fork or whatever the hell it's called.

What was the purpose of the ginger guy's group of wildlings in the attack. The wildlings thought Castle Black had thousand of men guarding it right? So Mance would have expected his 50 man scouting party to die, so what were they trying to do? Distract them so the mammoth could sneak up to the wall?

Although Mance expected Jon to be with them still, so i guess the plan was for them to sneak in and open the gates, then the group just decided to wing it?

Last Week Tonight is superb, definitely a TV highlight.

Orphan Black S02 E08

Spoiler:
Could be the point it jumped the shark - bringing in the "tony" clone to introduce a ridiculously minor plot point about Paul (which was already inferred) was pretty ******ed.

Allison still the best of the clones imo

It's sorta fitting that Yvonne Strahovski is on the show now since it jumped the shark in a way very similar to Dexter.
I had to ditch it after two episodes (and 24 was my favorite show for a period in the mid-'00s).

24 jumped the shark for me around the time Jack flew a nuclear warhead into a mountain in a last-ditch suicide mission to save the world, having already been tortured by terrorists, saved the president's life and exposed a high-ranking pentagon official as a Russian spy earlier that day, but still had time for a heart-wrenchingly emotional phone conversation with his daughter, who had earlier been kidnapped by extremists and witnessed the brutal murder of a US senator.

So yeah, as long as Jack gets into lots of life or death situations and does cool stuff, it's all fine by me.

Redford and Pitt do a perfectly solid job in Spy Game, but man that whole movie is almost stolen by Stephen Dillane. He's the dude who is now playing Stannis, he was terrific as Thomas Jefferson in the John Adams HBO thing, and for all I know he was also great in three zillion BBC things prior. It kills me how many moves he has that he doesn't get to use as Stannis. I think I said this already, but speaking as a non-bookreader, I could verrrrry easily imagine him as a superior Littlefinger.

Upon Chilly's reco I'm starting Hannibal. 3 episodes in (plus the web series that was made of the banned 4th episode). Holy hell this show is intense, but so far it's really hard to discern a cogent plot guiding the whole thing.

Hint

The killer of the week stuff are all side plots.

The true story occurs within the interactions of the characters.

Especially Hannibal with Will.

100% true.
