To understand the mentality behind this move, you have to understand the mindset of the GOP establishment. These people like to lose. It's comfortable to them. The National Review, that august institution of pseudoconservative thought, embraces this attitude with their tag line: "Standing athwart history yelling 'Stop!'" It's like they get a sexual thrill out of laying down and giving concession speeches (there is a reason the term "cuckservative" caught on so easily after all). As long as they have their think tank sinecures, conservatives are happy to be the controlled opposition, where they can whine about Obamacare and tax rates. It's pure kabuki theater.

So when a guy comes along who is utterly gaping everyone in his path, they don't know how to respond. "Not a conservative!" they lisp. "R-racist!" they point and sputter, in the hopes of getting a pat on the head from liberals who will hate them anyway. It's a disgusting display (it's disgusting) and shows definitively that they absolutely do not care about the average Republican voter beyond LARPing as Christians every couple years before cruising the D.C. bathhouses

I'm not sure what we are supposed be applauding, Sando correctly recognizing that the GOPe have a limit on the depths to which they will sink in order to gain power? That they are not completely morally bankrupt, that there is a tiny bit of humanity in them and they recognize the depravity of their base and the nasty thoughts and actions that they can be riled up to unleash upon those different from them, if only given a little nudge? Sure this may be true, but not sure why Sando is mocking the GOPe for this and holding Trump up as his hero. Even Ikes is saying enough with the madness, stop with the scapegoating minorities already......... and this was a guy who made thousands of poasts defending George ****ing Zimmerman!

And in what world is Sando living in that he thinks the GOPe has not done a great job of winning? After 8 years of power, they faced a generational politician with a huge mandate for hope and change in a time of despair for which it was easy to lay the blame on them, and all he was able to get through was a requirement to buy health insurance...... They control everything in this country but the presidency and they were a reasonable candidate away from seizing that too before Trump came bumbling along....
