Trump banned transgender from the military due to medical costs and disruption they would cause. Probably cheaper than the cupholders in F-35s

https://www.rand.org/pubs/research_reports/RR1530.html

"Using private health insurance claims data to estimate the cost of extending gender transition–related health care coverage to transgender personnel indicated that active-component health care costs would increase by between $2.4 million and $8.4 million annually, representing a 0.04- to 0.13-percent increase in active-component health care expenditures."

F-35 project totals 1.5 trillion. Obviously it's flawed to just directly compare costs but they look fairly minimal even on the high end estimates

it will come with similar downsides though, just smaller (costs will go up along with FREEDOM)

2nd most likely is nothing happens. major changes unlikely IMO
Anything that passes becomes a brutal full repeal in conference.

Even a skinny repeal death spirals the markets.

Which might be even worse than doing nothing. If R's pass a bill and the markets crash it becomes easy to pin it on them. Or even if premiums skyrocket after their bill - they're gonna get blowback on that.

Has anyone here ever donated to the SPLC? I'm fairly convinced that 95% of their donations simply get used to solicit more donations, I get two or three pieces of mail a week from them plus they call me every single day, even after I finally picked up and told them that I wasn't interested in donating more. They are ****ing relentless, and all this after a $25 donation for a Christmas gift.

SPLC is one of the higher rated charities dealing with legal defense as far as fundraising ratio is concerned.

When push comes to shove, they'll support it.

i'm not sure. whether it dies in the Senate (probably not) or in conference (Welcome back to the Party, House Freedom Caucas) I really feel like nothing is happening.

This is standard for charities. Thinking among many charity executives that they should be "run like a business." Meaning if an advertising dollar is estimated to bring in more than a dollar in donations then you can justify spending the advertising dollar. And you see those brochures they send you contain informational material about the cause and just so happen to ask for a donation as well. So that goes under the education column in the books, not advertising.

quick questions re: new sanctions against Russia.

1) if it passes with veto-proof majority, can trump pocket veto? i am reading something about a 10 day period before the end of a legislative session. when does current session end?

2) if it passes and becomes law, what (if any) counter sanctions or actions does Russia have? last time they stopped imports from Europe. that didn't play well in russia, but putin also wasn't dealing with beta drumpf and bff tillerson. this time he can probably pull off a crazy ivan.

wonder if this Drumpf thing might be close to imploding

seems like he wants to replace Sessions with Rudy, bc the former won't fire Mueller
also talking replacing McMaster with Woat Bolton

meanwhile Rex is taking a leave, and Mattis is supposedly on vacation ... interesting timing

or maybe he can just keep firing everyone and replacing them with worse ppl forever...

So sick of Sarah Huckabee and her maw in her nonsense, aggro press briefings. Would it surprise anyone if she busted out a "FEED ME, SEYMOUR!" in the middle of it?

Right. The skinny repeal is very very far from what the freedom caucus wants.

I miss Spicer. He had the beaten down look of a man who knew he was full of ****, but god damn it, he'd try to convince both himself and the reporters at the same time. In a different life he'd be Old Gil selling used cars. Huckabee just is vile

I imagine they vote yes now to appease base/make repubs look bad but won't actually pass it when they get in power. Much like repubs w repealing ACA.

Session ends in December, so we're fine there.
