well after reading the last two pages at least I have faith that some sort of agreement will be reached regarding gun control

I've made like ten perfectly reasonable and thoughtful posts itt that have been completely glossed over. And usual, nobody on the pro-gun side ever attempted to answer oi's question about the positive utily of gun legality.

In general I agree these need to be conceptual discussions and not devolve into us debating legal wording as if we are actual legislators. Ikes is pretty bad here. KC saying yo the biggest issue is handguns anyway is a fair point. As is MEbenhoe's. The essence as someone said above is "guns that fire many many bullets in a short period". Getting into detail more micro than that is really counterproductive.

KC I'd argue the first amendment has been hurt more than the second already and likely gets worse by the day.

Guns that fire that many bullets in a short period includes all semi-auto guns, which includes just about all guns. There are specific reasons why I'm asking these questions. Trying to figure out what someone's position actually is is perfectly valid. If you don't do that there's nothing to say, it's just some fee-fees and no substance.

What are the specific reasons?

Because I have no idea if you're trying to ban all semi-auto guns, scary looking guns, rifles with magazines, or whatever. My response to you changes greatly based on what your actual position is.

I think a solution to gun control would be to interview friends, family members, and neighbors when somebody applies for a gun. I know 4 people I can think of that own guns, 2 of them I don't feel safe around at all because I think they are crazy and short tempered and shouldn't own one. Another guy I know, I feel safer when he has them on him because I know he is responsible and practices a few times a week.

Great point. Not to mention the 4th and 5th.

So, ban just about all guns.

Clark is trying to say that you are not going to gotcha people itt with legal classifications of guns when you're talking to people who want the maximium
types of arms classfied as contraband, not the minimum.

If I am misspeaking for someone itt, please say single yourself out but I get the feeling this is where many coming from. People who want the minimum amount of types of arms banned already agree with you, man.

My position is that it doesn't much matter to me what they ban, or if they even ban anything. Maybe they just make it harder to get these weapons.

All I want for now is progress towards a goal of someday drastically reducing the amount of guns and gun violence in this country. I would consider anything that can even gets the ball rolling on change a victory.

What is your response to that?

I was waiting to purchase a gun but with all the recent developments I'm going to be purchasing several in the coming months. I don't want to not have any when the inevitable knee jerk legislation is passed. Thanks for showing me the light guys.

There are plenty of things we could be doing to drastically lower gun violence that don't involve taking away constitutional rights, and in fact, actually increase freedom. Do those things, and I'll consider jumping on board with gun control platforms.

Ikes with his standard "not gonna tell you what I think but gonna ask you your specific stance so I can shoot holes in it". Take a new approach.

I mean, you can't hardly call anything now knee jerk. Maybe "way overdue", and you could couple it with "likely ineffective " if any actual legislation gets passed (there won't be).

I have no idea what I'm not telling you, and if you want to know something, why not just ask instead of being super passive aggressive?

I would like you to clearly state your stance for any argument you decide to participate in. I think that has a chance to greatly improve the discussions you are a part of.
