Welp, this was for sure the most inane thread development of the day.

"It's not like it's a fire department" even though the exact same logic to FUNDING FIRE DEPARTMENTS VIA ARMED ROBBERY TAXATION applies to Meals on Wheels

And to echo CDLBOT

25k a year, 40% up to 200k and 50% over.

Anyone making 60 and under is still receiving benefits, 100k owes 15k, 200k 55k, 1m owes over 400, etc.

I hope to not directly benefit from that despite Suzzer's wanting

I don't think they're the same, and I was pointing out the logic flaw in riverman and Victor's "Wow, that was a great service. I loved performing it." with "this couldn't be possible without the federal government" line of thinking.

But Jesus ****ing Christ I'll step out of here

Unless there's some logical process by which that same service is likely or certain to be provided without government intervention, you haven't even raised a point. And you haven't even tried to address whether there is some logical process by which that same service is likely or certain to be provided without government intervention.

There is a logical process by which it can safely be concluded that same service will NOT be replicated by pure charity, which is why people do think canceling Meals on Wheels is bad.

Well actually, that's how people KNOW that canceling Meals on Wheels is actually bad for a lot of people.

WHY people think canceling Meals on Wheels is "bad" is a question that can be answered in probably thousands of correct ways.

I, for one, am willing to believe that there's a ton of people out there who tell themselves that they would give to Meals on Wheels type programs now, but don't because the government already takes 3.50 a year from them off the top for the same purpose.

Theyre called trump voters.

pretty happy to see him throw fox under the bus today. hopefully they start lashing out at him. once he loses them, he's down to tabloids and breitbart which don't exactly have the reach of fox.

Law school had a "libertarian" wing, which was largely notable for its "libertarian" leaning with regard to [things they don't like, especially things that help people they don't like], and expansively liberal views with regard to [things they deserve to enjoy that other people who aren't awesome at life™ don't get to enjoy]. They were also notable for a thoroughgoing misunderstanding of what "libertarian" means.

In any case, they were a set of individuals most likely to die first in any unregulated environment, whether it be for food or for satisfaction of blood rage incurred by their annoying presence.

You're aware this idiotic "budget" would essentially cost the same and just give the "forced" amount for keeping impoverished old people from starving to death as an additional revenue stream to the military, right?

Actually I think the "axe meals on wheels" thing is great because even the democrats should be able to make good use of it in the election.

You're effectively defending the existence of a terribly destructive oppressive state because they spend a few points on good stuff, and I'm just like yo people care and will help others anyways stop saying it's necessary.

No, this isn't the logical conclusion. But if it was, your UBI would be as well.

And every bit of evidence we have suggests that a stateless society would result in more destruction and oppression

So that's nice bro

Where's a good source of international opinion/polls about Trump? He's unbelievable. The look Merkel gave him after his "we have something in common" comment regarding the wiretapping was great. Throw in some unsubstantiated shots at GCHQ along the way, why not?

Not trying to defend the regime just argue against the notion that a "Great service that's invaluable to society" wouldn't be voluntarily financed without government. It's not like a fire department.
quite simply, I reject your argument and your point of view.

if you want to end meals on wheels and actively work to dismantle it, then yes, you are an inhumane deplorable.

What portion of Meals on Wheels did the federal government fund? All of it? How much did it cost?

Seems pretty irrelevant either way both in terms of cost and in terms if harm caused by it being cut so not sure why people are so up in arms about it.

A charity would surely pickup where it left off. Don't need federal government for make a wish etc;

i think you poorly worded your statement. the taxes also need to be lowered. can't just defund charity programs, move the spending to military/defense like trump is doing and expect people to give more money to charity.

the government definitely needs to get out of the welfare/charity business, they just ****** the incentives and waste money. however, they also need to remove the taxes

I was actually asking. I have no clue and have never ever heard of that program. Seems reasonable to have volunteer money pay for it rather than taxes though.
