If we start off with the assumption that there are ~60 million "enemies," theres a lot of value in trying to reason with and intelligently converting as many of them as possible first. Even though most of them ARE objectively some degree and combination of racist and stupid, theyre not all full blown nazis.
Im not good at much, but i am good at persuation. I and others itt were making pretty good progress on Bluff before Victor showed up and spazzed out.
There are tens of millions of people out there who are mostly stupid, raised terribly, and constantly fed propoganda and fake news. I don't believe that we should push these people further right.
Again, cant make everyone see the light, I wouldn't waste 3 seconds with pwnsall. But empathizing with what lead these racist/morons to be this way still has value. Decreasing the amount of enemies from 60 million to 50 milllion would be a huge win. Many of them just want to be understood. They dont want their entire life experience to be handwaved away as meaningless even if we know they are objectively wrong.
Civil Rights victories havent been won historically through blunt force and changing everyone by force. They've been won with an unwavering belief in what is right and by showing enough people the right way rather than focusing on what is the wrong way.
I've never posted ITT and only came here because I read about it in the FAQ. Basically my only concern on this site for politics is trolling the libtards in Politics and P7.
This is probably the best, most reasonable post I've seen from someone that (I'm assuming) leans left. The reason that so many (ie not all) right wingers are going farther right isn't Trump, it's the fact that they're getting blasted for being on the right and for their life experiences.
I'm in a town in PA that voted a high percentage for Trump. The day after he won, people were excited. Why? Not because Trump won. Because "we dumb, uneducated white people" won and took down Hilary. So many people were anti Hilary and just fed up with the left and how much they belittled anyone who disagreed with them.
So, ya, I think woody is spot on here.
