Marlon and Jordan did the right thing by not pissing off Emily as she'll likely be around in the next few challenges and always in a position of power.

Yeah I agree.

Way more important to get in the good graces long term of Paula, Emily, and Diem than it is to piss them off in order to join favor with Camila and Jemmye.

Final is going to be so good. I would purchase a version that edits out the girl's portion of the game.

Question for CHALLENGE historians:

I've been diving into some older challenges, and a lot of them don't have quite the same feel, mostly because almost everyone is nice all the time. When would you consider the CHALLENGE Modern Era to begin? Is the first season of TJ a good barometer? Inferno is pre-TEEJ and seems like a strong season.

Ev, Kenny, Evan, and others are introduced in fresh meat, so that might be a good jump off. But that season is half hour challenge and definitely has that older feel.

I was a fan of the season where they kept trying to eliminate Derrick and he continued to stay alive - maybe it was an island season?

You should start at Inferno II just because the GOAT/castmember ratio was insane and it was a fun season.

However, for me the challenge didn't morph into The Challenge until Duel I, and specifically at the moment when Wes decided to take his destiny into his own hands and sent himself in against Derrick, culminating in one of the top 3 elimination rounds of all time. Wes completely flipped the game around and established himself as an athletic, strategic, and competitive juggernaut (a bawse if you will). He ushered in a new era of The Challenge imo.

nyc999, you're thinking of Gauntlet 2

If we go even more old school, I remember when you had a point system and if you were in the top 3 points you were safe and if you were not, the top 3 would vote and decide who WENT HOME, NOT INTO AN ELIMINATION GAME, STRAIGHT HOME.

That was some fun drama.

Yes, that was a crazy one, back when Wes was a physical force.

This must be the least compelling cliffhanger ever. Who cares which of these broads gets sent home? Neither team is worth caring about (Cooke at least rates as meh, the others are annoying), and either one is going to get crushed in the final anyway.

I assume this is the penultimate episode. My DVR is also picking up some sort of aftershow that is an hour long as well but this can't be the finale.

Cooke is safe tuq, try and keep up. It's Diem/Aneesa vs Jemmye/Camila

Personally I'd suggest watching Inferno then skipping to Gauntlet/Inferno 2 and going from there. Gauntlet 1 is very meh and its the first with elimination rounds and everyone is still far too nice. Inferno 1 has a couple heavy hitters and a girl trying to kill someone on the first challenge.

But I agree that if you don't want to crush through that many seasons(its a lot) starting at Fresh Meat due to it being Wes' first season and introduces a number of other players as F60 pointed out. Duel 1 is another good starting point.

Gotta say, that's some pretty poor planning on MTV's part to end with a girls cliffhanger instead of a guys one. Last episode the guys didn't even have to do a challenge, they just sat out an entire episode so the girls could have two runs at the color thing. Should be a fireable offense for whatever MTV producer laid out the elimination order.
