These Mayweather odds are insanely good value. I remember putting a lot of money on Froch vs Robin Reid back in the day think -1000 on Froch was pretty much a steal. I think it's time to bet the car.

I'm on Mayweather at $1.27.

I really want to get on Mayweather by decision at $3.75. I want to believe McGregor can last on size\strength\youth\pride, but I can't shake the feeling that McGregor just shuts up shop in frustration after a few rounds of of bouncing punches off floyd's shoulders...

Robin Reid - there's a name that I haven't heard in a while.

According to them, they are paying out £250,000 ($320,000), meaning that over £1 million ($1.3 million) has been bet on Mayweather.

They are "predicting more than £200 million ($256 million) in bets - with most of the money expected to come in the 36 hours before the bout. It is more than three times the size of the next biggest boxing market, when Mayweather fought Manny Pacquiao in 2015, and by far the Paddy Power’s biggest event of the year."

it'll be interesting to see how this weekend's fight influences GGG-Canelo, which I'm sure everyone agrees is a much better fight.

It's like boxing in the age of a Donald Trump presidency.

Signs now that Mayweather's starting to be backed. Some chunky stakes on him the last 24 hours on the exchange.

Yes, but don't forget they take a commission from your profit.

1.27 is really 1.2565 in my country (Ireland is 5%) and could be different depending on your country afaik

There is speculation that PP just lays off on BF, so the £250k ($320k) that they say they paid out on Mayweather is really more like a £50k ($64k) advertising/promotional expense, which could well be worth the publicity. (And most of the money will just be given back to them on future bets vs people cashing out anyway.)

I'm a massive sports betting fish, but what would PP be doing to hedge the ~200M or whatever that has been dropped on McGregor. I presume they can't actually afford to pay out 700M+?

Do they insure it? Do they lay it off at other bookies (I can't imagine that actually happening)?

i'm not really buying this 'the books are getting buried if conor wins' narrative. most of the lenders i'm watching have shortened on floyd and lengthened on conor in the past 3-4 days.

But if we are to take PP as an example, and we are to believe the numbers they put out in the media, the payout for McGregor winning would be multiples (maybe 4-5x?) of their yearly profit. Surely they're not going to take that risk?

Its commonplace for bookies to hedge their bets on anything significant

Paddy Power will do well from a big event like this regardless as they are getting new customers

The quote wasn't £200 million on McGregor, it was them predicting that there wil be £200 million in total bet on the match. That would mean ~£160 million bet on Mayweather and ~£40 million bet on McGregor if it were a balanced book.

Prior to this week, it was not a balanced book, and the books had liability if McGregor won. That has been changing, as money has been coming in on Mayweather recently, as Yeti and Consty have referred to. By fight night, the books may not have much liability remaining on McGregor, if any.
