Yeah, the couple of rounds I saw, it was pretty bad. The Diaz-Malignaggi fight was much more interesting.
Heard that Bradley-Peterson was pretty good too.

SySteMChEck, who's that in your avatar?

I fell asleep during round 6 of the Klitshko fight, didn't bother to go back to see what I'd missed, I assume it didn't get any more exciting in the second half? Heavyweights are so dull, I think it's really good for the sport that the main interest atm is in the lighter weights.

Not seen Diaz-Malignaggi yet, will it be up on YouTube or anywhere?

Mayweather's camp proposing additional random drug tests in the run-up to the fight: http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=24100

Will be interesting to see how Pac responds to that after Mayweather Sr's allegations of him being on steroids. I guess he'd be within his rights to refuse, as it amounts to a direct accusation to cheating, but then that would look pretty suspicious at the same time.

I haven't found a Diaz-Malignaggi fight d/l yet, but it should be available
here at some point. Bradley-Peterson is already available there.

Apparantly, Manny has no problem with the steroid issue: http://forum.philboxing.com/viewtopi...f=102&t=154990.

From a purist's standpoint this may be biggest fight in 20 years, but random sports fan has no clue who Manny is, and only knows who Floyd is because he does those commercials with Bill Curtis.

When this shatters all of the PPV records how will you justify that comment?

More TVs, easier accessability, greater population, etc.

I mean, do you actually contend that more people, today, know who either of these two are vs. Tyson or Holyfield (for example)?

Say 6 months before the respective fight, the order of name recognition was/is pretty clearly:

1. Tyson
2. Holyfield
3. Floyd
4. Manny

I don't think it's close to debatable.

Floyd and Manny are bigger than Holyfield, and Tyson wasn't the same fighter.

Interesting how this turns into Tyson/Holyfield vs Manny/PBF debate when your comment was "but random sports fan has no clue who Manny is, and only knows who Floyd is because he does those commercials with Bill Curtis," which is just plain wrong and has nothing to do with any other fighters.

"which is just plain wrong"

I wish there was a way to prove it, because random sports fan really has no clue.

Heck, I bet more people know who Holyfield is, even today, than either Floyd or (especially) Manny.

Anyways, Tyson not being the same fighter is 1. not true imo (I don't think he was EVER as great as the perception, but let's not do that thread again) and 2. revisionist history, because at the time (which is what matters), that was not at all what most people thought.

I'm starting to wonder if you know who these two guys are.

Is your definition of random sports fan that they know nothing about sports? Manny is a huge star, in the US and (more importantly) globally.

I don't know about the US but I'm pretty sure that virtually every casual sports fan in the UK knows who Pacquiao and Mayweather are due to their fights vs Ricky Hatton (if they didn't know them before). They were unavoidable on all the sports channels, and gained quite a lot of mainstream media attention too.

Obviously 99.9% of Phillipinos know who Pac is, and I'm sure he's pretty big amongst the wider Asian audience also.

Any person that has watched ANY boxing match in the past 2-3 years should know who Pacquaio is.

So yes, a "casual" sports fan (whatever that means) should know who Manny is if he has any clue about boxing.

This is true.

However, the fight will have 3+ months to be hyped by various media and word of mouth.

lol Clark im sorry but you are so wrong. I mean over here people are already planning where they are going to watch the fight on March 13th. They dont even follow boxing but everyone is so eager to see this fight. Random sports guy doesnt know who Manny is? Are you serious?

He's saying tyson/holyfield have better name recognition...which is true. Floyd and Pacquiao both are known commodities amongst casual sports fans. Holyfield and Tyson are both known amongst many non sports fans.

However, that doesn't make up for the fact that the two best p4p fighters of the decade are fighting other in their primes. Best offensive fighter of decade vs best defensive fighter. 2 of fastest p4p boxers of the decade. 2 of the smartest in ring iq boxers of the decade.

^That's not even hype or exaggeration. That's fact.

As someone who is almost completely unaware of boxing I agree with this. I would be shocked if a single one of my friends knows who Manny is, he hadn't really registered with me until about a year ago and I read yahoo sports/si/watch (canadian) sportscenter almost every day. This will change closer to the fight as it gets hyped I'm sure but you guys are CRAZY to say that this is bigger than Tyson/Holyfield for the average person. Remember the vast majority of sports fans pay no attention to boxing whatsoever.

No, he said that "random sports fan" has no idea who Manny is, and only knows PBF from a commercial.

Arguing if Tyson/Holyfield is a bigger draw is a different conversation, and I don't understand how it is evidence for random/casual sports fan not knowing who Manny is.

Word of mouth advertising and free media advertising will change this by fight night. It'll get 3 million ppv buys imo

Tyson/Holyfield is huge AFTER that fight between non sports fan and due to the "ear incident".

If it went down like any other boxing match, i'm sure random people halfway around the world would'nt have heard of it.

Clark and others,

You ignoring every country not named USA when making your judgements about how big this fight is?

I have no idea about how boxing is perceived anywhere else in the world. If this will be bigger in the rest of the world because there happens to be a Filipino fighting then fine but I think a lot of people in this thread have been vastly overestimating how big a deal this fight will be to American audiences. I think every casual boxing fan will be watching but I don't think you'll see many nonboxing fans watching.
