Yeah but Kell's eye injury wasn't remotely as bad as Margarito's. Plus, Margarito's eyes inflated like balloons in nearly every major fight he was in. It was bound to catch up to him.
But the weight loss is the problem for Kell. When RJJ went up to HW from LHW and back down again, he wasn't the same fighter. The effect of losing all that muscle took a toll on his speed and reflexes. He went 1-3 in his 4 fights after his lone HW match against Ruiz. That was the beginning of the end of his career as an elite fighter. Sure, Kell is 31 instead of 34 but the same theory applies. Went up to MW for a one-off and then down to WW to fight against an elite fighter in the very next fight.
One week before the fight, Brook was weighing in at 153. So he lost more than 6 pounds in that time.
