Am fine with great novels about wheelhouses, though

Alright, then I'm gonna firmly re-nominate All That Is and suggest we all read it ASAP.

I'm concerned this selection doesn't adequately speak to or reflect the woman's perspective in SE

It's not the San Antonio Times Best Seller List

Definitely would be in for this. I decided a few months ago I was going to read during the summer since I'm usually too busy with work and school to find the necessary time. Think there should be a few books nominated, and we take a vote on this.

I mentioned it earlier, but wanted to give a quick rundown of one of my favorite books.

John Grisham's 'The Brethren' ($7.99 Kindle download)

http://www.amazon.com/Brethren-John-...s=the+brethren

It's about three judges who are all locked up in federal prison where they run a weekly court for the inmates who have beef. They run some scams from inside the prison with the help of a shady lawyer from Florida.

Meanwhile, the CIA is working to install the next President of the United States in order to get more defense spending due to some perceived threats they've been following. This is set at a time when defense spending is being slashed due to not much going on threat wise.

At some point these two stories intertwine.

That's the basic premise and I wouldn't want to spoil anything by going into more detail.

It's a pretty light read which you'd expect from John Grisham.

Somehow it's only rated 3 stars on Amazon which is just laughable. Two of my friends independently read this book and somehow it got brought up and we all agreed it was one of our favorites.

Not saying this is something we should choose for a group read as there wouldn't be much to discuss afterwards, but I highly recommend it for people who like books about lawyers and whatnot.

Do you want to read and discuss it in installments? Meaning read 1/3 in week 1, discuss, repeat, etc?

How do book clubs work? I thought you're supposed to meet/discuss every couple chapters. Otherwise this thread will be pure spoiler tags as everyone is reading

What in the Amazon reviews made you pass?

passing on a certain book is pretty lame imo. isn't a big part of the point of the book club to get you to read some stuff you wouldn't otherwise read.

+1 to doing some sort of installments like 1/3 of the book per week or whatever

i like a lot of lewis stuff too, but i also work in the financial industry. specifically mutual fund company, so i'm very familiar with the subject as well.

not sure if that's gonna ruin me on the book or not, but i'll probably pick it up soon.
