fair play, took full advantage of the man extra...also fair play to the linesman, it's not often they'll get involved in huge decisions on the biggest stage
Question tho: assuming he plays, how are they going to use Commons?
If he had a consistent, well defined role, I feel like he would've been much harder to leave out during the last round of qualifiers. There's something to be said about versatility but I just feel like it's easier to overlook a jack-of-all-trades type player in Commons than it is to omit a known quantity like a James Forrest; in Jamie's case, he's there to provide pace and width and attack down the wings. In a 4-1-4-1, in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-2, he still fits. Depending on formation, a player like Commons can get pushed into the periphery a little easier.
We can argue here that Levein's using the wrong setup but I don't think overlooking Commons is a decision borne out of contempt or anything like that.
you make a fair point, but the form Commons is in i'd have him play left, right and behind the strikers before every other player in those positions.
i do think it was a personal issue with Levine having a problem with Common's attitude, going back to Common's pulling out of the quad for whatever friendly it was.
