I could easily see a situation where the existing deal stays intact for this season but gets reevaluated after the year's ratings become available. Lower viewing numbers will decrease advertising demand, which will decrease ad revenues, which will hurt the margins created by the existing deal...

I don't think it's a question of whether or not Sky wants to cover the SPL, but Sky doesn't need the SPL; the SPL needs them.

"A degree of renegotiation" is a very polite way of saying the SPL is about to get bent over the table and forced to take a severe slash in revenue.

It's time for Celtic to abandon ship and gtfo asap. I'd be pushing pretty damn hard to get into the English Championship right about now, and seriously considering life in League One. Short term pain with a far greater potential for long term gain.
yep lets push for the exact same thing that we are dead set against happening with rangers united.

--

Sky make fortunes out of Scottish football, thru tv packages and Skybet on the games. they also need SPL to fill the ****ty time slots and get this, they are not the only player in the market for TV deals.

SPL tv has been talked about also.

a talented negotiator should be able to help keep the drop in value from Sky to a minimum.

--

i know this sounds harsh, but if clubs cannot afford the loss of rangers then that is their own fault for piggy backing their financial future on a shambolic outfit such as the huns. seriously, does that **** make any sense to you? cos i know it doesn't to me.

also what do these clubs do when they get relegated? relegation has happened almost them all and none, yes NONE have went to the wall because of relegation.

But if the TV numbers take a substantial hit, you're negotiating against the bottom line.

If I'm a casual, neutral fan, I just don't see why I should be interested in the SPL next season. It's not a question of whether or not Celtic win the league, it's only a matter of how wide the margin will be. Where's the intrigue there for the average fan?

same place it was when they won 9 straight.

nobody gave a **** then, why should anyone care now? obv it is because Celtic are lined up to do the winning, but they just cannot have that.

But Marty, those weren't 9 consecutive walkovers. Some were blowouts but there were hotly contested seasons in that run. Aberdeen were very competitive in the early 90's as well and came close a couple of times.

And the way things stand, I'd be shocked if the SPL survived long enough for the Hoops to reach 9 in a row.

we have a chance for a few years to build a team capable of competing in Europe, when just qualifying for the CL group stages is not seen as an achievement (like it shouldn't be), after year 3/4/5 i expect us to be there.

at the start they were hotly contested alright, but not by Celtic (we finished ****ing 5th!!!!!) and at the end there was competition this time from Celtic.

in a similar situation for us imo it would be easier at the start and progressively getting harder with at least one of the clubs expected to make a go of things in the huns absence, at the end the newish huns should be back in some shape or form to mount a challenge.

You're making a huge assumption here; that the dip in quality of the product doesn't deter top quality players from coming to or staying with Celtic.

Not to mention CL will never be a guarantee considering how terrible the coefficient is right now. That won't change any time soon, SPL champs will always have to play in and that means it's a coinflip at best.

I think this is what the vast majority of 'tic fans want and have wanted for some time but despite the clubs best efforts we're no closer to it happening and I doubt we'll see it anytime soon.

With Rangers going the way they have I think it's got a lot of fans thinking that a move south should be what the club is pushing for now more than ever but I'm just not sure what more the club can do.

Also commiserations on Croatias exit Geddy

Haha cheers...the team did themselves proud, we've got the reputation of being the side that no one wants to be drawn against. Hopefully the core stays together and healthy and makes a good push towards Brazil 2014.

Sounds more like Rangers 2012 leaking another story in the hope that it will put pressure on the SFA and co to find them a way back into the league.

Everytime I hear Charles Green talk I cant help but think Rangers have another dud on their hands.
