this is all just so bizarre

Just fold one club, start another one with no debt, and problem is solved? Theres no way they should be allowed to play in the SPL next season as a reformed company, that would just be absolutely ridiculous.

Mind you, I saw on SSN tonight that all their players contracts will no longer be valid and all the top players can leave for nowt, so if they did stay in the SPL, celtic fans might get the added pleasure of watching them get relegated.

Just strange all round. Get shot of this club and start all over again like AFC Wimbledon.

I don't think they'll get back in the SPL. No way the other clubs let them in. I mean they owe serious money (for smaller SPL clubs) across the league and aren't giving a **** about them.

They then come out and say they're going to raise money and sign new players.

How can they do that?

Oh they're out of contracts on a free.

Ah right, so they'll be playing for nothing as well?

I don't think they'll be able to keep any of the players as marty said, they've got no money to pay them and i'm sure most players there won't accept a near 90% pay cut, i sure as hell wouldn't.

Also if their assets do go up for sale, Celtic should buy them and paint them green for lols

From the BBC...

Quote:
Prospective Rangers owner Charles Green is adamant that existing players will be transferred to a new company. His consortium aim to pursue a 'newco' route to complete their purchase after their offer to creditors was rejected by Revenue and Customs.

"If the players choose not to transfer they will then be in breach of contract," Green told the club website.
So the club are okay to stiff £100m plus worth of creditors, but the players have to be transferred to the newco? lol.

Rangers in liquidation Q&A

BBC Scotland BBC Sport examines what comes after liquidation for Rangers after HMRC decided not to approve Charles Green's Company Voluntary Arrangement offer.

Can Rangers newco get back in to the Scottish Premier League?

When the company is liquidated, its registrations with the Scottish Football Association and the Scottish Premier League will be terminated. The new company will not automatically inherit the old registrations.

The newco would have to request a transfer of Rangers' share in the SPL. The SPL will then vote on whether to admit the newco to the top-flight. The SPL rules require eight of its member clubs to vote in favour of a share to be transferred to another company or club. This would require seven other SPL clubs to vote in favour of transferring the oldco's share to the newco, since Rangers will have a vote.

Will the SPL issue any punishments to the newco?

This has been the subject of much debate recently. The SPL decided not to vote on rules introducing punishments for a prospective newco, because the situation has not yet arisen.

The SPL insists it will deal with each situation on its merits. However, it is likely that the SPL would seek to apply sanctions to a newco in an attempt to deter other clubs from following the same route. Sanctions could include a period of reduced income from media rights and sponsorship, a points deduction and restrictions on player transfers.

What if the application to transfer the SPL share fails?

If the SPL rejects the share transfer, the new club could then make an application to join the Scottish Football League. If successful, it would then apply for SFA membership. The new club can only apply for SFA membership when it has a competition to participate in. An opening would arise in the SFL if a club is promoted from the First Division to replace Rangers in the top flight.

All applications to the SFA are assessed on their merits. However, the SFA say any sanctions placed upon the oldco would be taken into consideration to act as a deterrent to other clubs following the same route. Additionally, the new club will not be able to participate in European competition for three years.

Who actually owns Rangers' assets?

At present, Craig Whyte is the majority Rangers shareholder after Sir David Murray sold his shareholding to the Motherwell businessman for £1 in May 2011.

Use accessible player and disable flyout menusInterview - Rangers joint administrator Paul Clark
Whyte currently holds a floating charge over Ibrox, Murray Park and the Albion Street car park, which were transferred to Liberty Corporate Limited in April. Liberty Corporate is Rangers' parent company and its sole shareholder is another company known as Liberty Capital Limited, which is owned by Whyte and registered in the British Virgin Islands. Whyte's father, Thomas Whyte, is the sole director of Liberty Corporate.

The floating charge is not guaranteed if the club is liquidated and could be subject to a legal challenge by the appointed liquidators.

Will the players all transfer to the newco?

Under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006, all employees have the legal right to transfer to the new employer on their existing terms and conditions of employment and with all their existing employment rights and liabilities intact.

It could prove problematic for the newco to maintain the level of wages currently being paid to players if the club's income is reduced. Similarly, employees are under no obligation to accept the terms of the transfer to the new company and can terminate their employment contracts.

Effectively, this means that when Rangers is liquidated, all current players would be free to seek new clubs and there would be no transfer fees due to the newco. However, there could be complications with player contracts under Fifa, Uefa and SFA regulations.

Can the newco buy players?

Technically, there are no restrictions on the new club purchasing players during allocated transfer windows as long as it holds an SFA licence.

However, the current club is under a transfer embargo for entering administration on 14 February and was also handed a 12-month transfer embargo by an SFA appeal tribunal for bringing the game into disrepute, which was set aside by the Court of Session in Edinburgh. The SFA appelate tribunal has still to meet to discuss what punishment should be handed down to Rangers.

The punishment would not automatically transfer to the newco, although the SFA has said any sanctions levied on the old club would have to be taken into consideration when assessing the newco's application for SFA membership in order to deter other clubs from following the same route.

What happens to the club's history?

The Rangers Football Club PLC is a public limited company registered in Scotland (company number: SC004276) and was incorporated on 27 May, 1899. When the current company is officially liquidated, all of its corporate business history will come to an end.

When this happened to Airdrieonians in 2002, all of the trophies, titles and records associated with the club were discontinued and a new club, Airdrie United FC, took over. Airdrieonians' official history ended in 2002, then Airdrie United's took over.

The answer lies principally in the eye of the beholder. Some supporters will view the new Rangers as the same Rangers, while others will feel the old Rangers no longer exist.

So does this thing really exist where Sky/ESPN can pull the plug on their TV deal if Rangers are not in the SPL?
Scottish Football Containment Thread Quote

ESPN won't care, they didn't have the derby games anyway and sky already show speedway/fishing/Irish football........so it is very very unlikely that there will be no deal for the SPL.

Again, I like this line of thinking - ignore the cheating and worry about the possible money that can be generated. It is totally ****ing wrong.

There apparently is a clause in the Sky deal that allows them to scrap their contract if there's not the 4 Old Firm league derby games each year. This first came to light when people were talking about expanding the SPL to 14-16 teams as a reason why teams couldn't just play each other twice. Marty should also note that someone not having the Old Firm rights in the UK is not the same as not having the Old Firm rights period. It's not that there would be no deal, it's that the existing one would be ripped up and replaced with a much smaller one. Would be nice if the TV deal agreed could be split equally between the clubs though, instead of giving the lions share to the two big teams as now.

And of course smaller TV deal = less money = clubs cutting their playing budgets even more, on top of the loss of funds from the Rangers support.

Obviously Rangers not being in Europe opens up possibly financial benefits from that for the other clubs, but given how every Scottish team is useless in Europe including Celtic it's unlikely to be much of a positive. If Celtic could actually regularly qualify for the CL group stages, like diddy Cypriot teams can, then they'd make north of 10 million Euros from it every season. But none of the other clubs can hope for much from Europe and the Europa League isn't lucrative unless you get far. No-one in Scotland is good enough to do that.

No-one at SPL clubs is ignoring the cheating, they are legitimately worried about their clubs financial future, otherwise they'd have just punted Rangers without a 2nd thought. For a lot of the chairmen it is pretty much 'cut off your nose to spite your face' whichever decision they make. Dunfermline almost went tits up when Rangers were late paying money earlier this season, it's a real problem for the other clubs.

Which makes the vote on allowing 'new' Rangers into the SPL super interesting.

They need 8 yes votes. Celtic and Hearts will definitively vote against them, so it only takes 3 more clubs to disagree and they can't get in.

Hibs chairman said: "Integrity is beyond purchase. It's not a question of any sum of money in return for that integrity." which seems like a no as well.

Aberdeen fans have a longstanding hatred towards Rangers so they are a possible no.

Kilmarnock are apparently a yes vote though, so that's two for including Rangers own (lol) vote.

Marty, you seriously need to get a grip. Like honestly. Look at it from a business POV for the other SPL clubs. If Sky/ESPN threaten to cut back money if Rangers are not in the league do you not think that MIGHT have an impact on any potential vote? Im guessing most SPL clubs are just keeping their heads above water as it is and if the TV money was reduced then they would really struggle.

We are just looking at every possible outcome here. You can keep posting your gifs and pictures, fair play to you but if some of us want to have a discussion about other things then can you please let us do it without going off the handle?

i have no time for considering whether there'll be a tv contract because it stands to reason that there will be 100%, if that is on lower terms then so be it. I'd much prefer this was talked about after rangers are dealt with - **** them, they cheated the system and there can be no consideration for them (which is all this TV contract crap is).

DS, clubs may be considering the cost, but i doubt very many fans other than rangers fans that want to blow smoke up people's arse's are.

noted about ESPN's possible rights elsewhere and i'm already fully aware there may not be the same money for tv rights, i don't really care.

Kevin, my "it is totally ****ing wrong" was not just for your benefit and not aimed at you personally either, i'm just fed up reading/listening to it (tv) as if this should be the main consideration in whether rangers get punished or not.

lol, you just get pretty passionate about all things Celtic which usually doesn't end well for you. Didn't mean anything by it.

No-one has said it is the "main consideration", we are just looking at all the angles. I don't see what is wrong with that, it surely has to a be a factor in a clubs decision, do you not think? It seems even Celtic fans itt are sick of hearing about Rangers, just bust them already and be done with it. Roll on the next chapter so we can get a laugh at how this is all gonna be handled. Rather badly I'd say.
