There apparently is a clause in the Sky deal that allows them to scrap their contract if there's not the 4 Old Firm league derby games each year. This first came to light when people were talking about expanding the SPL to 14-16 teams as a reason why teams couldn't just play each other twice. Marty should also note that someone not having the Old Firm rights in the UK is not the same as not having the Old Firm rights period. It's not that there would be no deal, it's that the existing one would be ripped up and replaced with a much smaller one. Would be nice if the TV deal agreed could be split equally between the clubs though, instead of giving the lions share to the two big teams as now.
And of course smaller TV deal = less money = clubs cutting their playing budgets even more, on top of the loss of funds from the Rangers support.
Obviously Rangers not being in Europe opens up possibly financial benefits from that for the other clubs, but given how every Scottish team is useless in Europe including Celtic it's unlikely to be much of a positive. If Celtic could actually regularly qualify for the CL group stages, like diddy Cypriot teams can, then they'd make north of 10 million Euros from it every season. But none of the other clubs can hope for much from Europe and the Europa League isn't lucrative unless you get far. No-one in Scotland is good enough to do that.

Again, I like this line of thinking - ignore the cheating and worry about the possible money that can be generated. It is totally ****ing wrong.
No-one at SPL clubs is ignoring the cheating, they are legitimately worried about their clubs financial future, otherwise they'd have just punted Rangers without a 2nd thought. For a lot of the chairmen it is pretty much 'cut off your nose to spite your face' whichever decision they make. Dunfermline almost went tits up when Rangers were late paying money earlier this season, it's a real problem for the other clubs.
Which makes the vote on allowing 'new' Rangers into the SPL super interesting.
They need 8 yes votes. Celtic and Hearts will definitively vote against them, so it only takes 3 more clubs to disagree and they can't get in.
Hibs chairman said: "Integrity is beyond purchase. It's not a question of any sum of money in return for that integrity." which seems like a no as well.
Aberdeen fans have a longstanding hatred towards Rangers so they are a possible no.
Kilmarnock are apparently a yes vote though, so that's two for including Rangers own (lol) vote.
