I dunno where you heard this story, but it wasn't Hootie. It was many more years ago, involving the club's original chairman,
Clifford Roberts. Who was every bit a badass as Hootie, probly more.
The member was playing a card game, iirc it was cribbage, and Roberts proposed a game of cribbage for his net worth, not a "flip." Roberts' net worth was in the hundreds of millions. He was an investment banker before Augusta Natl was built.
