The lesson about the weed stuff is that it bothers the NFL a lot more if you break their rules than it does if you violate the basic tenants of decent society. That's like, bad.
dids, why does it matter that its a woman? shouldn't we focus on the fact that he punched another PERSON?

I think it implies that the NFL is completely ****ing clueless about the problem of domestic violence and the message this slap on the wrist says.

Because "woman" is shorter than "a person who is obviously unable to defend themselves against your physical superiority".

When that's the aspect of this conversation towards which you choose to turn your focus, you signify some things about yourself dude.

The world has changed since the smartphone. Now everything gets on video. During the Rodney King incident the policemen were unlikely someone had a video camera. Today everyone has a smartphone.

I know you're just CDL'ing and I know you're not this dense, but just to entertain you:

because (the vast majority of) women are physically smaller, weaker, and incapable of causing any real damage to a man, especially a pro NFL player.

Note that if the situation warranted a woman getting punched in the face, there isn't outrage over this. If Rice's woman swung a bat at his head, he ducked it, hit her, restrained her, and called the cops, no one is freaking out. It's self defense.

People aren't dumb. This **** isn't binary. There's a scale to it. If he hit a teenager half his size, there's outrage. If he hit an elderly man, there's outrage. If he hit an average joe, there's less outrage. If he hit an average joe who started fight and took a swing, there's no outrage. If he hit a man his size, there's no real outrage and most feel 2 games is appropriate. When CDL gets punched in the face, there's no real outrage.

Remember how outraged Red Sox fans were when Pedro Martinez grabbed octogenarian Don by his bald head and threw him to the ground? Me neither.

And this goes along with the "but she's ok with him" stuff. There's an unfortunate aspect of our society where some women have been socialized to grant a lot of dominance to men. It's important to acknowledge that there's some unequal power dynamics at play and to try and remove those rather than exploit them.

nobody is denying that Rice ****ed up and should face consequences but lol at anyone suggesting that a split second act in the heat of the moment is worthy of harsher punishment than repeat offender habitual druggies like Gordon/Blackmon/etc.

Yeah the whole "she's supportive" thing doesn't matter. She doesn't get to declare where the line is drawn between her being wronged and not wronged. Just like Tiger Woods doesn't get to declare that majors is how you judge a golfer.

Individuals are sometimes less able than objective outsiders to recognize what is good for them.

Especially when that individual has a physical and likely emotional captor.

Is that a joke, or did the Ravens-fan portion of your brain take over the rational portion?

A woman can deliver a vicious nutshot though. Sometimes you need to preemptively strike to prevent future testicular attacks.

She could have Weapons of Mass Castration. We won't know for sure until we uppercut her.

I can see the argument for throwing the book at repeat offenders, but that book should still probably have the stock punishment for violence as much harsher than drugs.

I think the more gross inconsistency is the Roflzburger one, because even as a guy who hates that dude with the fire of 1000 suns, 6 games for a less well supported accusation seems crazy when you've got a guy on video and he gets 2.

I was asking dids specifically due to his repeated tirades on inequality and wanting actions toward and by women to be treated on equal footing to those involving only men.

Also, I tower over Ray Rice so 1 game would probably be more appropriate if he hit me due to the size mismatch.

I don't think Stephen A. gives enough credit to the Ravens in the work they've done to address the elements of provocation

He's the guy who gets punched in the face on occasion, right? I'm assuming this is his resting state.
