Beat a guy who averaged 106, 109 and 105. Ridiculous darts.

I don't want to say that I was watching this legally by any stretch, but I definitely missed the final 3 darts or so in exchange for the 3rd minute of some god damn soccer match, only for it to switch back to MVG in celebration.

Did Barry say Wade was the world number 5, or was that a mistake?

I don't hate giving Kim another go, he's been really good on tour this year, but I think I'd have given his spot to van de Pas who's actually been winning stuff - think he probably needed to do a bit more in a major or two really

I have him as #4 in my rankings, so that seems fine. He wasn't defending much (went out round 2 to Bunting two years ago) and did just final a major.

Speaking of my rankings, I'm going to stop clogging up the thread with quite so much stat/ranking/betting based garbage and incorporate it into a blog elsewhere - I've just posted up the end of year top 100. I'm not sure what the forum rules are on promoting outside links, but if you think about firing one of Sky's commentators who really, really doesn't like double 9, you should find it

I think it'll be decent - obviously nowhere near the same standard, but the guys that turned up to the Slam seemed for the most part to be very solid players and make up the 1-6 seeds (Fitton's the 10, Smith as always is unseeded because lolcanada), so hopefully when it gets to the business end we should get some good games. Reynolds also looks really good and has been destroying the PDC development tour and is switching after this worlds

It's on Channel 4 in the UK this year too iirc.

And hopefully that means Colin Murray isn't presenting it.

Hitting 5 with three darts, then hitting double 1 has got to hit a guy's confidence.

Yeah. Rob Walker is there as the main host on Channel 4 though. He seems a nice enough fella but I don't want to watch him on TV. Paul Nicholson is the color commentator.

BT Sport have got Matt Smith (got replaced by Jacqui Oatley for ITV's darts coverage) and Chris Mason (always seems in danger of doing an Eric Bristow by saying an inappropriate thing).

Haha thought the same similar standard to my local. Great championship MVG so far ahead of the curve he must practise religiously to keep so far ahead of the pack and i rate Anderson as a clear 2nd best in the world right now.

Premier league to look forward to Barry Hearn really put darts on the map. Curious how popular darts is in the USA?

oh my god that BDO video. He finally gets within striking distance and leaves a 166. My wife had to ask why it was taking so long. Her comment was "Jesus, even I'd have gotten to a checkout by now."

Some compelling matches despite the not particularly high standard on display so far in the first couple of days.

Can't really tell that much of a difference in the presentation between BBC & Channel 4 other than of course, the ad breaks and the welcome non-presence of Colin Murray.

Not at all PC but...did Fallon Sherlock suffer from mumps or an allergic reaction to something!? Am not sure what happened to her facially as she doesn't seem fat around the midsection but just her face.

A quick search engine search suggests she's been like this since April 2016.

The only thing that the Channel 4/BT Sport presentation combo can be anyway smug about over the last week is the remote controlled camera that follows the players on and off stage which makes the proceedings a bit 'movie' like.

It's a good contest between Glen Durrant and Danny Noppert but it looks like Glen's got him as he's 5-3 up in sets (first to seven sets wins).

Scary movie sometimes, as Martin Adams's kisses to the camera were creepy as ****.

Those could have just been the last darts that Glen Durrant throws on a BDO stage as he romps to a 7-3 win. I don't think he's good enough to be in the PDC but very best of luck if he does make the move.

I watched a fair bit of the BDO championship this week, given the ease of access (official stream available for free on YouTube in the US) and the timing (matches usually were still going on when I got home). The level of play was a little better than what I was expecting; Durrant and Hughes had a very nice semi-final and Noppert continued to be the best player I'd never heard of two months ago.

I kinda suspect that Durrant would have left earlier if he wanted to leave, so I expect him to stay at least another year. I bet Noppert is insta-gone; he looked fine in the Grand Slam, and you may as well make the jump when you're in form.

BTW the deadline to sign up for the PDC Q-School is tomorrow at 2pm (UK time, presumably) so we'll find out soon enough.

Welp, I may have to take most of my post back:

Quite possibly the worst kept secret in darts at present, runaway BDO number one Durrant is finally set to take the plunge following a year of dominance on both floor and stage.
Quote:
In an exclusive interview with live-darts.com last November, Durrant revealed his "decision had been made" in regards to a potential switch to the PDC as he aims to follow the recent success of his Sportsman Management Company stablemates Jelle Klaasen, Mensur Suljovic and Kim Huybrechts.
LOL me, then.

If you're that much better than the field in the bdo what's your earning potential £100k for winning the worlds. I'm guessing sponsorship won't be nearly as much as the pdc with the far greater coverage. Wonder how much the PDC or he is getting est to win this year.

The PDC Order of Merit...

http://www.pdc.tv/pdc-order-of-merit

For Glen to get over £100k a year, he's going to have to do the whole tour, win a few tournaments and thus likely be in the top 16.

With a 3 dart average of around 95, he's going to have to do a 'Mensur Sujlovic' and improve on that immensely to survive in the PDC.

It's an incredibly tough way to make a living particularly if you're not in the top um, 55. Looking at that, most outside of that top 55 definitely need sponsorship or a second living as travel expenses must eat up whatever prize money they get.
