Averages are positively correlated though.

Just been browsing through the averages for both the PDC and BDO tournaments this year.

Looks like 2 players in the PDC lost at the last 64 stage with better averages than anyone could muster in the BDO throughout the tournament.

None of the quarter finalists are in the list that have signed up. Dunno if the PDC will make an exception when BDO cheques clear.

Have covered the "how would they do if they switch" question on the blog. Cliffs - whole BDO is hot garbage, Durrant wouldn't be near the top 16, the losing semi finalists are horrible, Noppert is potentially the real deal

Ran simulations of the Premier League based on WC performances. Have Taylor being relegated. Seems legit.

edit - for bonus fun, go look at the Smith/Evans game from the PDC worlds on youtube and tell me what number is between the 16 and 19

Confirmed no Durrant and no Noppert. Slightly disappointing, especially with the no Noppert. On the bright side I discovered that there is a third Rodriguez brother: trying to join Rowby-John and Roxy-James, there is also a Rusty-Jake Rodriguez, who is now my guy to root for in Q-School.

Rusty is supposedly better than the other two were at his age

Surprised Cadby didn't stop over and enter. With 20 grand in his pocket he could have done a couple of weeks to do all the UK Open qualifiers even if he didn't win a card. Dunno how visas might work though, or maybe he watched the BDO and thought there's a free hundred grand on offer next year, then switch

for most "lower" players playing the PDC pro tour and hoping reaching to the odd last 16/quarter-final with an occasional TV appearance is probably going to be a better option financially than the the BDO ranking point mad dash round Europe but because Duzza is such a good position to dominate the opposite is probably true for him. All he has to do is win Lakeside and then one of the World Masters/WDT and he's made atleast around what he would for being top 16 to top 10 in the PDC. Which in truth would probably the best case scenario for him at the minute.

think Madars Razma and Kevin McDine are the only notable BDO players doing Q-school. Cadby apparently not going due to a "family emergency" but says he's going to move to the UK in 2018. Richie Burnett is back too after his suspension.

fyi on the subject of q-school sportingbet are offering odds: https://www.sportingbet.com/sports-d...07-638396.html, Lerchbacher and both the Hendriks' look like very good value @ 3/1, some of the more experienced floor jobbers like Frost, Kellett, Alcinas, Mansell etc. are pbbly quite generously priced too

Is it possible that Nicholson meant "one or two rounds of Q-School" instead of one or two world championships?

Not sure why some PDC guys hanging around 16-20 in the rankings don't go and win the BDO worlds a few years in a row. I suppose it's putting your whole season in a one off tournament but they will surely make more money that way. They can then still play all the tournaments where anyone can play. Can always go back later as well. Players not getting deep in majors with any regularity and missing the Premier League it seems a good option. At this point you are guaranteed far worse darts players will be higher up the darting money list just because they play outside the shark tank.

I suppose no one in that ranking range is anywhere near guaranteed to go through Scott Waites and whatever up and comers there are.

Some awful changes to the PDC tournaments:

- Non tour card members now can't play in European Tour qualifiers unless they only just missed winning a card this weekend, which was a huge part of the value of playing Q-School (cost - £250)
- Grand Prix has removed the two spots for Irish players and just has top 16/top 16 in Pro Tour qualify now
- Worlds removing the four spots for best Europeans, replacing them with generic worldwide/PDPA qualification spots
- European Tour now has more money, but seeds losing in first round don't have it count towards the order of merit, two UK qualifying spots moved from there to Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, who now can't play the main Euro qualifiers. Also now a two tournament qualifier limit for Europeans before they have to buy PDPA membership

Have never heard of the others, but according to the PDC page Jim Brown had his wife pass away earlier this year, so thats a nice storyline/fairytale ending I guess to a tragedy.

Woof. What's the point of giving the Grand Prix the same qualifying criteria as the Matchplay? Also it's silly to limit European Tour entries to the extent that they are.

Nothing quite shows how far darts has come in the last 8 years than John Part vs Kirk Shephard (the two World Championship finalists that year) playing HU for a tour card.

Paul Nicholson also playing for a card in the next match.

Your Day Three qualifiers:

http://www.pdc.tv/news/article/odyd7...hool-day-three

Scott Taylor
Richie Burnett
John Part
Steve Lennon

Taylor won one of the Challenge Tour events this last year. Lennon is a fairly obscure (to me) BDO player who is still young enough to play in the PDC youth championship this year and reach the quarters, and he won a Dev Tour event back in March. No need to introduce Part or Burnett; Burnett coming back this year after a drug-use suspension and Part coming back after apparently eating the old John Part.

Quite a few names making deep runs today, with Antonio Alcinas, Kirk Shepherd and Paul Nicholson all falling in the last round (to Taylor, Part and Burnett, respectively). From what I know and can tell from the Q-school order of merit, all three of those guys will probably be able to back-door a tour card even if they don't win through tomorrow.

Four more automatic places and then the twelve best get tour cards. What's the state of play right now?

Nicholson is definitely safe now; he's already made the last 16 on Day four. Alcinas and Shepherd made the last 32 at a minimum, so they're also safe. And Mickey Mansell is in the last 32 as well, so he's probably done enough to get himself through.

Razma lost in the round of 256 and got zilch for the Order of Merit today. He started today eighth on the OoM (top 12 get tour cards) so he will have to sweat it out. He probably needs a couple of the guys in front of him to win cards at the oche and leave room for him.
