You look at Puig's stats from 30 games and just think: "Hey guys! Let's go on SKYPE and talk about Puig's stats - he may be the GOAT! Let's make it for 1:00 because I have to get some lunch. Should I go to Chipotle or Chik-Fil-A guys? What should I order? I have no brain of my own and my sole motivation in life is to win your approval!"

Okay. Have you actually seen Puig play?

Give us some insight regarding his problems on defense. I know it doesn't show up in the box score, so this might be a challenge for you.

Go ahead, let's hear from you.

I've seen him play multiple times, I don't think he has ever hit a cutoff man.

No, you're right, I can't analyze players without using stats. You win.

Thanks.

I realize that since you didn't play sports as a kid, you are only used to playing video games. So, you are more stats-oriented. I appreciate that; I think there is no problem with that.

However, actually watching and understanding the game as it happens is really interesting and rewarding. A lot of things just don't show up in the data base. Besides, its not really all that fun to just list facts to prove one player is better than the other. It is helpful, no doubt, but for those who actually enjoy the game, there is some intrigue in raising opinions without perfect information and seeing how it plays out.

The situation we have with Puig is a current example of this. It is fun to just watch the kid and see what he can (or maybe can't) do.

As between you and I, I have a better idea of what Puig can probably do in the future, you can only tell me what he's done thus far (with limitations, because it is hard to really understand him just from numbers). As for you, we all are on the edge of our seats for five years from now when you can tell us how good (or bad) Puig is based on his numbers.

get over yourself. guys a 22yr old rookie thats grown up playing cuban baseball. he's gonna make mistakes and he will have to make some adjustments. your analysis is nothing more than assumtions. and lol at your psycho-analysis of his personality and how he seems like a dick. everyone on the team has expressed nothing but love and support for the guy. he's cocky cuz he can be. and when he flips the bat at i. kennedy after getting walked both times, its so awesome as a dodger fan you cant ask for more!

it doesnt take a genius baseball scout to see the guys gonna have a big impact on the game for years to come.

I am a Dodger fan. I like the guy. I am just pointing out a few things that concern me from watching him. Watching Puig is a lot different than watching Trout or Harper - Puig has a ton of talent, but is having some trouble with some holes in his game right now. For example, on his baserunning, his problems are mentioned in every game I have watched from June 10 forward. The issue is whether this guy has enough upstairs to adjust.

Funny thing is there are now a lot of things being written about him in the LA newspapers that are kind of echoing what I wrote last night - that his attitude may cause him problems.

I find it interesting that a guy like Nutshot wants to stop anyone from actually offering any analysis when he doesn't say anything about Puig other than "GOAT." That is pretty lame. If you know so much about baseball, say something about the player then.

Player: "Hey coach nutshot. I am having trouble hitting the curve, can you give me some help?"

Nutshot: "lol @ u!"

Anyhow, I guess we aren't supposed to discuss Puig's game in a thread about Puig. No problem.

I'm glad you guys learned so much from nutshot on this topic.

If nutshot actually knows anything about baseball, what good does that do YOU if he doesn't say anything other than that he like Chik-Fil-A?

Pretty strange.

Yep.

1. Puig is a great baserunner. He needs no work on that part of his game.

2. Puig really knows his strike zone well and can lay off the outside pitch off the plate.

3. Puig hits the cutoff man.

4. Puig doesn't waive off the center fielder.

5. Puig gets out of the center fielder's way when being called off.

Nothing to see here, let's just check the box score and see if he can get back up to .470.

Exactly, this is the Puig .400 (.500?) Watch thread, not the bore everyone to death describing his inability to hit the cutoff man thread. Glad you finally read the thread title

Well, it is going to quickly turn into Watch Puig strike out 400 (500?) times thread if he doesn't adjust.

By the way, you really need a thread to "watch" a guy go for .400?

"Hey guys, this thread is just about stats, just list the stats and move on - don't offer any opinions about whether his game needs work."

Of course, since you slobber all over nutshot's nuts, you don't mind him saying "GOAT." Which of course is not a statement about watching Puig go for .400 (.500?) but rather a comment on his overall game.

I think you actually want to have a thread (like all the other boring, lame threads in this place) where you don't encourage comments on the subject of the thread, but rather comments about those commenting on the subject of the thread.

95% of the threads in this forum suck and offer minimal content - I thought this one was supposed to be different as it was separated from the MLB thread (which is a zero-content thread and just for listing stats). God forbid a fan of the Dodgers should offer his opinion about Puig.

So, I will refrain from posting in this thread because it is not for me. However, I will follow it INTENTLY to see if Puig hits .400 (or .500!) because this is the only way it can be done.

He's not that far off.

In the Puig .400 (.500) Watch Thread, when Yasiel begins his nosedive, it's time to troll.

he has had issues base running but of late after getting scolded by davey lopes, when he got caught stealing third with hanley at the plate, he's been better.

stories in the l.a. times and other media outlets are pure speculation and it has more to do with the fact that he doesnt like to talk to the media than any attitude toward his teammates. reporters are just butthurt because they are not getting the scoop from puig which is fine. he always thanks the fans and tries to put the attention on the team as a whole rather than himself. i dont see how that needs an attitude adjustment.

yes he misses the cutoff man more than not, but with an arm that strong, i think he can go for more assists than the regular outfielder. as long as he doesnt try to throw home from the warning track with man taggin on third and one on first, im fine with him taking some risks.

so he's an aggressive batter. nothing wrong with that. he probably will always have more strikeouts than walks but if he bats 300+ with 25+hrs why would you want to turn him into tony gwynn?

22 yr rookie with 5 tools with an unreal start to hopefully a long career, the only real concern you should have at this point is how to keep him healthy.

Oh well, no ASG, but he's still been amazing. These numbers are pretty awesome:

Games by # of hits:
0 - 5
1 - 13
2 - 10
3 - 7
4 - 1

The dude's more likely to get 3+ hits than 0. But, he's hitting .397, so time to trollolololol!

Going forward, he certainly isn't more likely to get 3 hits than 0. Wonder what the fair line is of his season-ending average.
