Just checking Fan Graphs and saw this sweet stat:

HR to Fly Ball Ratio: 42.9% (1st, +11.9 pp to 2nd)

And while he's not the top, he's fairly high up in these categories:
O-Swing% (% swinging at outside strike zone pitches): 41.0%
O-Contact%: 56.4%

He does lead the lead in Z-Swing% (inside zone), and 9th in overall Swing %, so he's not up there to walk.

Another 3 hit game. Vin just said something like he's hitting .800 when he puts the first hittable pitch in play...or something insane like that.

"The numbers would have to be so stupid that you say, ‘Ok I’ll consider it.’ " - Bruce Bochy

Unfortunately for Bochy, he's already been a first hand witness to one of Puig's "stupid number" games. I hope he slugs 1.50 this whole series.

You guys are backing the wrong horse. Next .400 hitter is Jose Iglesias, one infield single at a time.

Iglesias is bizarre. Batted like .200 at AAA for 133 ab's, then comes up to MLB and bats .434 in his first 113 ab's.

If he bats .400 and breaks the 72 year drought this year I'm pretty convinced the world is over.

Hey Bochy, is batting .500 against your World Series Champion pitching staff stupid enough for you?

A couple inches from 3 steals. Let's hope can get up again for the cycle opportunity.

Sigh, only 4/5, 2B, 3B, 2 SB. Not All-star material.

Needs more seasoning in the minors

102 PA's thru 81 team games, meaning he'd need exactly 400 more over the final 81. Almost no margin for error. Would be fun to see talking heads spin if he came in at something like .402 over 496 PA's.

How is he going to get 400 PA in 81 games? He's going to probably get about 450 PA on the year so he will need to hit around .450 on the year.

26 games: .436 BA, .713 SLG, 7 HR, 19 R, 16 RBI, 4 SB

Basically the best first calendar month of a player's career.

It's not impossible hitting near the top of the order. It's pretty unlikely, but not impossible. And if he plays all 81 and doesn't get to 502, he won't miss by as many as you're asserting.

He still wins the batting crown if his average would still be the highest even if X# of imaginary hitless AB's were added to his total to get it to 502.

Does he? at what number does that apply? Like if he gets 475?

Depends on how big a lead he has. If he is at .385 and the guy behind him is at .327 then he could get a bunch of empty AB's added on and still have an average better than .327. If he's at .345 with 2nd place at .341 then not many at all.
