I'm happy the guy that will end up 8th on GC is someone that didn't gave a **** about the 1st week lost 15 minutes, won 2 stages and polka dots jersey, and still beat those dumbasses that stick to wheels 3 weeks to end up between 7th and 15th place

Obviously here he looked better than a lot of GC contenders but how much of that is due to him losing time early on and being allowed to look good because no one in the top 5 would immediately jump on him if he attacked?

Using my lol eye test it felt like his attacks were the most impressive out of everyone during the Pyrenees and the Alps stages (sustained change of pace that reminded me almost of an in form Contador) but how trustworthy is that?

Hope Uran gets somehow owned by Landa in the TT and doesn't podium (very unlikely I know). The guy didn't try anything at any point throughout the whole Tour.

Agreed with all of that post until the Uran bit. Not sure what else he could have done, and still has a legitimate chance of winning the tour if Froome has an offish day in the TT.

Yeah, that post makes no sense at all. Quintana is 5 years younger than Froome. Last year a lot of people were saying he was the inevitable successor. I have been on Team Bardet for a couple of years now.

Barguil has been incredible. Every day I think he is going to just pack it in since he is safe enough and has put up some big efforts, but he just keeps attacking. No idea what his GC future is, but he is only 25 and I'm sure he'll be interesting for a while.

EBH finally wins a stage this year, after two second places (one of them by 5 mm). Everyone else in the breakaway went left at the roundabout. EBH went right and grabbed a huge lead, never letting it go.

Pretty successful tour for a guy who came into the tour as a forgotten set up man for Cav. His original job was to lead out Dimension Data's Mark Renshaw, who then leads out Cav. After Cav's injury, the positions switched so Renshaw was leadout for EBH.

You wonder what is the point of wearing earphones for 200km if they can't tell you whether to go left or right on a crucial roundabout

lol. i was thinking similarly. how can anyone that was planning on trying to breakaway not know which way to go there. and even if not, the team needs to tell them. ultimately, it wasn't the difference (EBH was a cut above), but it was an easy launching pad for him.

i feel like tomorrow should be really exciting, but the inevitability of it is still weighing me down. maybe it is incorrect to feel that way. part of me says it is, but the rest says froome is easily ahead a massive % of the time.

Barguil wins the combativity award.

For the record there are 7 votes : 5 french journalists who are super homers, Greg Lemon and the public (via twitter)

Public voted for De Gendt, Lemon voted for Matthews (lol) and 4/5 of the french guys voted Barguil

De Gendt clearly should get it

Barguil isn't a terrible pick, but yeah obviously homers gonna homer

Yeah give it to the srub that went in front everyday for absolutely nothing except winning intermediate sprints

Meanwhile Barguil and Matthews won jerseys and stages in breakaways

Barguil=Matthews>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> De Gendt for this award

in no way does matthews have a case as good as barguil. for me it has to be de gendt or barguil. anyone else is crazy.

Clearly the frenchmen are super smart, fair and logical, thank god we have them making the rulings in the tour.

Meanwhile the fantastically bright frenchmen booing Froome as he's starting

Once again TV production is terrible, how hard can it be to display intermediary times, have to rely on local commentator to give us gaps

yeah this has been pretty terrible camera work too. i know our station in the US doesn't control what is shown, so once again it is the fault of the french.

I think it's fair to say Bardet is not winning any tour de france. Sky can produce about 8 riders better than him before he wins one.

Totally expect to see next year tour with no TT now

it's obviously not impossible. he just has to absolutely massacre everyone on a mountain stage. not too likely he can do it unless team dynamics change a lot over the next few years, but far from impossible.
