this is misleading. This is usually code for 'so that means Q is further behind than the scoreboard indicates since he's gonna lose on the itt, so he actually needs to be ahead on the mountains'.

But one of the ITTs is uphill. So that may not play out the same way.

right I was aware of that. Still think Froome may have the edge over NQ in the uphill TT and definitely over the two combined. Definitely interested to see the result of the uphill TT

Decent programme on Cav on 5live - probably on the BBC player for 7 days if you are in the UK or can feign that

Seriously Peter Sagan should earn 20% VAT on every single dollar created by pro cycling

it's ok Quintana is just going to add whatever time he loses here to the gap he's got to fill in the very last mountain of the tour

I just expect Sagan to be an absolute boss every stage now, but quite enjoy that Froome is doing unexpected things too.

Someone should tell Quintana he should try to stay in Froome's wheel

Expert comment here

It's not like in the mountain, especially in a windy race like that

You can't select your wheel and stick it for 80km, Quintana has not the motor to do that kind of thing racing at 60/65 km/h on flat

Sick attack by Froome, Quintana couldn't do anything there with a climbers team

I noticed Quintana was kinda far among the bunch today. At the exact moment of the attack i'm pretty sure he wasn't among the top 25 riders in the bunch and was closer to the middle of the bunch than the front.

Fair play to Froome it's really hard to counter that but at the same time if you are when Quintana was while you're trying to win the tour during a stage where this was basically the only thing to avoid, you're not giving yourself the best of chances

Ventoux wind shortens TdF stage

Quote:
Thursday's Tour de France stage 12 finish on the iconic Mont Ventoux has been brought forward by 6km due to high winds, organisers said on Wednesday.

"Given the weather conditions predicted by Meteo France at the Mont Ventoux summit and the fact winds topping 100km/h have been recorded there, Tour organisers have decided to change the finish to the 12th stage in order to guarantee safety," said a statement from Tour organisers.

The finish has been brought 6km down the mythical mountain to the Reynard Chalet, removing a large part of the toughest climb, usually 21km long, on this year's race.

Current race leader and reigning champion Chris Froome was one of the first to learn the news.

"It's the right thing to do for safety. Everyone wants to see a great show but the most important thing for the riders is safety," said the 31-year-old Briton.

not that bad for us

steepest part is before the Chalet, and with front wind last 5 km can be pretty boring because nobody can attack front wind on the ventoux

shorter ventoux probably means good news for the breakaway. That's like 3 minutes of lead less that they need going into it in order to win the stage.

visually its a bummer. those last few kilometers in the complete barren wasteland up there where sightlines go forever and you can see people minutes in front of you (or at least the cars/motos, and when the crowd doesn't block view) is pretty epic.

I used to dislike Froome but this tour has changed my mind. Putting it to Quintana-Valverde for 6 seconds whenever he can is a superb mix of trolling and bossing. He's completely broken Quintana mentally already. Today he crushes them on the shortened Ventoux.

I know Froome's appearances can be misleading but he really isn't looking great right now. Of course Quintana and Porte are taking full advantage of this
