Re: Premiership Era - Draft Only

Subs:

Hernán Crespo

Sure, his Premiership record is relatively thin, but if Klinsmann was picked in the early rounds having scored 30 goals in 56 league matches, then Crespo is probably worth selection having scored 20 in 49?

I wanted a second striker, and obviously the best ones have already been picked. With Kewell, Solano, Ferdinand, Gerrard, and Berkovic creating chances, Crespo's poaching abilities are perfect if my team is in need of a goal.

Robbie Savage

Quintessential "hate the guy if he's on the other team, love him if he's on yours" player. Perfect destroyer to bring in as a sub if my team is looking to protect a lead. He offers no offense, but obviously possesses great work-rate and tackling.

Honors

League Cup: 2000
39 caps for Wales

Re: Premiership Era - Draft Only

David Weir

I've been thinking about picking him up for a couple of rounds now, but I was leery of another defender. Now is the time to take him while I still can.

Weir has made waves in several countries, including the US (where he played, unusually for a future Premiership player, collegiate soccer at U. Evansville), his native Scotland (winning the 1998 Scottish League Cup with Hearts) and England, with Everton. He's played at a high level for 15 years and ought to bring leadership from his spells as Everton captain and no fewer than 61 caps for Scotland. I had to check two or three times to make here he really hadn't been picked.

Lee Carsley

Another ex-Evertonian and another veteran. He had a slow start to his career there but he's picked up in the last few years, and can substitute in for one of the more offensively-minded midfielders if I'm trying to hold a lead.

Re: Premiership Era - Draft Only

Subs

John Hartson

A man who just went out there and scored goals. Obviously his tally was best when he was at Celtic, but that also had to do with the skill level of the league. That said, his tally in the prem was 63 out of 174 matches(with his time at aresenal being marginalized by the arrivals of Bergkamp and Le Sulk) is more then respectable and he gives me another hard man on the pitch

Anders Svensson

Well, he's actually going to be starting for me over Platt, but I needed another creative midfielder and one that could actually run. He gives a great attacking spark and his passing is on point. I'll be deploying him in the center as I don't really plan on playing with wings, but he will be more to the left

Re: Premiership Era - Draft Only

Sorry for the delay guys didnt even realise subs were part of the game. Im not sure if these guys are gone but im gonna go for;

Julio Arca

Nwankwo Kanu

My reasoning; I need a couple of versatile players to cover pretty much 10 outfield positions. Arca is a defender/midfielder......Kanu is a midfielder/striker.

Arca is a great free kick taker, kanu is highoy unpredictable and usefull when chasing a game.

Re: Premiership Era - Draft Only

subs:
Mario Melchiot

Brian McBride

Melchiot is a good, well-rounded full back who can come off the bench for me. McBride's very good in the air, and even though I get him when he's around 30, he doesn't have a steep decline as he ages.

Re: Premiership Era - Draft Only

Round 12 picks 22/23

Chris Waddle

I was amazed to see him not get picked during the first eleven he was the Football writers Association player of the year 92-93 and a big part in Wednesday’s cup runs. A player of tremendous skill and vision, capable of playing on either wing or behind the strikers.
Waddle was an entertainer who played in a laid back style with his shirt out and a lazy gait he was a mesmerising dribbler who despite having lost most of his pace by the first Premiership season could still beat his man and if shepherded inside could pass and shoot just almost as well with his right foot as his left.
Waddle was also one of the last generation of players ever to have held down a real job he worked in a sausage factory before signing professional forms.

Neil Lennon

Another on I’m surprised didn’t go sooner.
Where people praised Waddle’s vision and flair and questioned his passion and commitment the exact opposite can be said of the man Martin O’Neil built two teams around.
Neil Lennon was a team player he worked his socks off defensively but was also willing and able to get forward and provide a short passing option to who ever had the ball. His passing was good and his pass selection was conservative but effective. Lennon can replace Boatange or McAllister and be relied upon to put in an effective determined performance.
