Trojans crush them mercilessly. One of the championship Packers teams of that era actually lost to the College All-American team in an exhibition match.

NFL preseason teams beat any, and I mean any NCAA team.

That being said, about the last line in your wiki link, about that team being the best ever. If they were, they would not have lost to Texas the following year. And the 2 season's they won the championship (one with a split) there was controversy on both of them.

ya i think for this to be close, youd have to get a late 70s/early 80s team v. current best college team. its obv hard to say, but thats my best guess.

different reasons behind that and it is a different era. Back then all the best college players didn't go pro. They made better money elsewhere alot of times. Why do you think Army and Navy were always #1 and #2. You made alot more money being in the Armed Forces than pro football.

at the very least you need a team from when there were alot of black players playing. early 80's would probably be interesting, but i'd say USC still wins. easy to forget though that USC probably has a few 19 year-olds playing.

Once you get to early 80s and teams like the 84 49ers I think the pro team rolls.

No kidding, this is exactly why the 1961 packers would get crushed by the Trojans. A lot of the best athletes didn't join football in the first place because the other sports like Boxing(America's Heavyweight Champions are all playing football..except in reverse) and Baseball were more lucrative. The level of the athletes on the 2004 Trojans is much higher. They would stomp the 61 Packers with their vastly better speed, size, power, schemes, etc.

A lot more is known about nutrition than in the 70s so college players of today are much bigger and faster, especially since they do much more intense weight training these days.

Also, I'm fairly confident that the college game of 2004 is vastly more complex than the NFL game of 1961. So not only would they be bigger, faster and stronger, they'd be smarter too.
