2/3rds of the posts on the front page of ChiefsPlanet.com are about Manning. It's like ChristmasX1000, except you might get the best present ever created, or you will probably get kicked in the nuts.

that entire post is just terrible reasoning

Schaub who has been in Kubiaks offense for however many years > bringing in Peyton (no certainty on health or performance) and completely adjusting the entire offense

plus you have to pay Peyton a nice chunk, take the cap hit of Schaub, you can't resign Mario Williams

There are a lot of performance costs in pursuing Manning, it makes no sense to go after him from any perspective outside of Madden

Are you accounting for savings from trading Schaub and future draft picks?

In what world are you "saving" by dumping Schaub for Peyton? Trade value also dips when other teams know you need to get rid of a guy

SMIG, you are making a lot of assumptions.

1) that they will have to "completely adjust the entire offense" for Manning. WAT?
2) that they need/want to resign an expensive Mario. This may not be the case at all. Their D was nasty last year with a guy making like 300K in his place.
3) Assuming they get nothing in return for trading Schaub, who is also kinda old and not exactly the most healthy dude ever, and has no post-season experience.

I would be happy with whatever the Texans decide. But with my casualfan homer hat on, I think it would be really ****ing fun if Peyton was our QB next year. Even at the cost of some long-term EV.

Sorry if that bothers people

absolute lol at 1. If you don't get the massive adjustment that needs to be made for Manning, just forget it

2 is true, but Schaub + Mario > Peyton imo, by a good margin

yes they would get some picks for Schaub, that doesn't make it not a terrible move. So much more +ev for Texans to use their cap room elsewhere

Casual fan in me wants Peyton too, however it actually makes sense for the Jets who have a crap QB and are already in the midst of an offensive transition. Schaub was playing at a high level last year, and that was without Andre Johnson for quite a few games. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

schaub is underrated. i wont be shocked if he has a better statistical year than manning tbh given that manning has to make a lot of adjustments

Huh? Just explain it plz.

As far as I can tell the Texans' O is largely run to set up the PA pass, and largely AJ+TE dependent. Bootleg heavy.

Manning has traditionally run a pass to set up the run/draw and he utilizes 2-3 WRs and also uses his TE a lot. Both have concrete feet. But Schaub rolls out and uses the bootleg more to buy time to look downfield. Peyton has traditionally been quick drop and quick release.

His offense is much more up tempo and no-huddle and Schaub's is slow tempo, constant huddle.

I mean I guess they are more different than I realized but I don't see how Kubiak and Manning can't adjust to eachother.

EDIT: Schaub is also Kubiak's robot and they run nothing but scripted plays. Manning obviously is more creative and looks for the D's weakness at the line and tries to take what is given. I just don't see what the snafu would be there. Just tape Kubiak's mouth shut and let Peyton run things. Don't see how much can go wrong with Daniels/AJ/Foster at his disposal and an elite blocking line.

why would you say that one of schaubs negatives is that he's old and injury prone, when manning is both older and more likely to miss games

BASaint, You're begging the question on one point.

And it's called taking a risk on a guy whose peak was GOAT and who has a ton of playoff experience and is one of the smartest game managers OAT. Schaub's peak was just "very good".

I get why you'd be excited to have peyton QBing for your team btw

It just makes no sense from any angle. Wouldn't increase your SB win equity in the short, medium or long term.

Yeah but it would be nice to stick it to the Colts, who have stuck it to us for so many years!

of course they could adjust to each other, but why would you want to? you have a well oiled machine as it is, with the cap space to make a nice addition or 2. Its just a really poor allocation of resources combined with the required destruction of what is already a top 5-10 offense or better

this is exactly what would be a negative when you see it as a positive. Manning made all that work with teammates who had played with him for a long time. He won't be able to audible even half as much with new teammates simply bc they will false start or mess up their own assignment far too often. Assimilating terminology of plays would also be difficult

during the regular season, you agreed with that statement, what changed? or are you assuming the pats will make a significant signing

I think the Pats will do a lot, sure. they have money to spend and 4 high picks.

mostly I think it's a lot safer to project the Pats to be great than a team who just emerged this year.
