Re: So Bad It's Not LOL: Penn State Covers Up For a Pedophile
At least in Ohio, its not that big of a deal: they already associate the word "****hole" with "Sandusky."

Paterno seems to be in the clear. From what I've read, I guess one could argue that he should have followed up on his report - but he doesn't seem to have done anything illegal.

Kidding you on what? Sandusky will have the key thrown away, but the others will get reduced sentences and be out after a couple of years because they didn't do the abusing. That may not be right, but it's what will happen.
Paterno hasn't been indicted in the Grand Jury report. He reported the accusation to the AD, and he hasn't been implicated any more than that. He's in the clear. Not following up on his report, resigning in protest, etc was probably wrong - but he hasn't done anything illegal.
I don't see how any of their teams can be banned / restricted from competition over this.

Don't remember which game but the announcers were talking about and they said "JoePa immediately reported to his superiors." LOL
JoePa told the AD but several weeks after he reported it, still nothing had happened to the guy and he just let it go. WTF?

Well, Sandusky wasn't even coaching there anymore when that happened. What should JoePa have done? Despite his stature, there are still internal rules he has to follow.

Oh OK, so we agree. He's not a criminal, just a heartless scumbag who stood idle while kids got raped. Cool.

As I said in the BigTen thread, Joe Pa wanted to name his successor and Curley wouldn't let him do that. So by sitting on this, knowing Curley hid it from the authorities, he ensured Curley would get fired. So now Paterno hopes to be able to name Jay as the next head coach.

Re: So Bad It's Not LOL: Penn State Covers Up For a Pedophile
Obviously this won't have any direct effect on PSU's day to day football operations. What it does is bring into question the integrity of the entire program and shows the things that go on in big time college athletics. If they'll cover up 10+ years of child molestation, what won't they cover up.
Can't wait to see ESPN's angle on this.... Would love if Bob Ley had a twitter.

Quite possibly - but we don't know at this point whether he did follow up on it unofficially and bring any sort of informal pressure to bear. From the information we have so far, it would seem that the ethical way to handle this would eventually involve resigning in protest, but you can't be sure on the basis of that information that he merely did the legal minimum.
If he did then, yeah, he's a ****ing **** - but even if that is the case he faces no actual sanction here.

No, the ethical way to handle this is calling the ****ing police. What would he resign in protest of? Himself?

Lol at 90 year old Joe Paterno being allowed to name a successor. Not that Penn St is horrible but they're barely relevant these days because the old fart refuses to step down.

Telling the AD but not police is pretty weird imo.

Let's be serious, Paterno wasn't resigning until he got that record.
