Joe Knew. Even earlier than we've all suspected:

I thought everyone knew that he Knew this early.

Well, here's what going to happen: Everyone with a functioning cerebrum will hate JoePa even more, cultist idiots will come hard with legalese to defend Saint Joe

There was evidence that he knew as early as 1976.

I read what came out today and I'm wondering if there is any reason to dislike Mike McQueary? I don't remember the twists and turns but it does seem like he did everything he could to report what he saw. Is that true?

No it isn't true. He could have dialed 911 when he saw a boy being raped

Mike McQueary saw a man raping a young boy in a shower. Instead of intervening he called his daddy.

I dislike him.

I think he assumed that Penn State was handling it and didn't have to go any further. After all, he had no reason to believe that the administrators and coaches at Penn State were the types of people who would have no qualms hiding a serial child molester in plain sight.

I certainly would have acted differently. You know, try to stop Sandusky from raping the kid or calling 911 about it happening if I felt I couldn't stop it myself.

Among the litany of horrible human beings involved in that scandal, McQueary is nowhere near the worst of the group.

Nowhere near the worst of the child rapist and his multitude of executive-level enablers, just one of the tertiary enablers, not so bad.

Trying to absolve or "less of a bad guying" McQueary in any way is a terrible ****ing look.

There is no scale of bad guy on ENABLING CHILD PEDOPHILIA. The fact the University still stands or has any athletic programs in anyway is a blight on humanity.

A brief read through this thread shows that I am one of the most vocal critics of my alma mater in this scandal. It would have been easy to fall in with my fellow alums and Penn State fans, many of whom were my dear friends when this happened and defend Penn State. Instead, I cut those people out of my life and took the moral high ground.

Saying that one person is not as bad as the others does not mean that the person in question is not bad. Across the 40 years that this scandal spanned, he is a small piece of this but a piece nonetheless. Any attempt to make him out to be some heroic whistleblower would be a grievous mistake.

I see what SUB is saying. I don't know if McQueary saw Sandusky anymore on campus or not after the incident he witnessed. Maybe he thought everything was taken care of.

But once again, State College is a small isolated area where everyone knows everyone else's business. In the 7-8 years after the incident McQueary knows nothing happened to Sandusky other than he not being allowed to bring kids on campus. That was the punishment. So McQueary could either figure out what the **** is going on to punish Sandusky correctly..... or keep quiet and continuing pulling in well over 6 figures a year in a dream job where he grew up.

You see what he chose. A Grand Jury finally had to pull the story out of him.

Noted. You are all right he witnessed child rape and did nothing to stop it in the moment.

He was a graduate assistant at the time of the incident. He probably wasn't making much if any money in that position.

Joe Paterno had a cult at Penn State. He was perceived as a man of impeccable character who could do no wrong. I would go as far as to say that he was probably one of the most revered public figures among people in the state of Pennsylvania prior to the scandal. Nobody from within questioned him when he said something which is why he and the cronies around him were able to hide this so easily.

Either McQueary was a cultist who described Sandusky's presence as Joe doing things his way or he knowingly ignored the fact that there was a serial pedophile at Penn State with easy access to children being enabled by Joe. He's no angel in either scenario.

The only two PSU grads I've been around for any length of time would never shut up about him. It was like I was talking to women about Saint Oprah the football coach.

Thing is that their indoctrination starts young. They don't just go to PSU and become that way. They're brought up around PSU alums and watch PSU football games every Saturday whether live or on TV. They're told that it's the best university and you'd be crazy to go anywhere else. It's integrated into their lives the same way religion is for many. For those who live in State College, it is a part of who they are as a human being.

That said, not everybody at Penn State is like that. There are tons of overseas students who had no attachment to Penn State beyond academics. I'm a PSU grad but didn't grow up watching college football. Neither of my parents went to college so college sports wasn't a big deal in my household. Same applies for pretty much my entire family. All of the adults in my family (nuclear and extended) either went to a small uni with little to non-existent athletic programs or didn't go at all. I didn't even move to Pennsylvania until I was a teenager.

All I know is that I haven't gone back since I graduated and have no intent on going back in the future. Even if they weren't covering up child abuse, it's in the middle of ****ing nowhere with nothing to do if you're not a student (aside from watching football of course).

My buddy has hated JoePa since the 70s. I think he could have sustained himself w/o eating for an entire year just on the cult's tears from JoePa's fall from Grace.

I think I even have emails from him in the 90s calling JoePa a kid-diddler. Close!

Then again this is the same buddy who got pissed about the eclipse. So he pretty much hates everything.

Joe Paterno was never to be questioned. I remember questioning his coaching ability after PSU went 3-9 in 2003 and people looked at me like I had offended generations of their families. No matter how sensibly I presented my case against him continuing to coach they wouldn't accept the argument. He was Joe Paterno. He was a legend. How dare I make a reasonable point and back it up with evidence. Even when PSU went 4-7 in 2004 and I kept pushing my point people maintained the same view.

The cult surrounding Penn State is no different from The Catholic Church. It doesn't matter how many kids they've ****ed or that the unquestioned leader used his power to conceal these crimes for years. People are still Catholics the same way people are still Penn State fans.

This is pretty ****ed up. I'd rather Penn State show some backbone and tell JoePa worshipers to go **** themselves but they hired Jay to keep the big donators donating to the university.
