jesus christ, this is even dumber. some people think that it's not a gigantic invasion of privacy and personal space to talk to strangers, or even to lecture them. naturally those people are not generally found on the internet - the internet is full of people who constantly lecture other posters about behavior, while generally avoiding that behavior in real life.

The situation described at Penn state here doesn't really fit at Michigan. The academics have much more influence. Hell Michigan is a school where athletes get suspended for a year for two positive tests for pot.

This doesn't mean that athletes don't get any sort of special treatment, but the magnitude seems vastly different.

Itt we laugh at the cultists who bought into the success with honor spiel hook line and sinker while maintaining that our schools would never do anything like that because hey, we fired a football coach after he got drunk and assaulted a cop and we had to maintain our public image. Also, when defending our school, we don't actually say that they would turn him over to the police, just that we'd fire him, which is the one thing Penn State actually kind of did.

2 things:

1) Some. Not this one. Taking down the statute of a man who by the strength of several smoking gun pieces of evidence enabled and covered up the serial rape of children isn't an entirely difficult decision to make. If it is, then they aren't smart enough to be running a university.

2) If you read their reasons for not deciding now, it's clear they have no rational basis other than fearing the reaction of the vocal minority who still supports Paterno. Not because they think it still SHOULD be there, but because they are afraid of the crazies who do still think that.
