Quite possibly - but we don't know at this point whether he did follow up on it unofficially and bring any sort of informal pressure to bear. From the information we have so far, it would seem that the ethical way to handle this would eventually involve resigning in protest, but you can't be sure on the basis of that information that he merely did the legal minimum.

If he did then, yeah, he's a ****ing **** - but even if that is the case he faces no actual sanction here.

No, the ethical way to handle this is calling the ****ing police. What would he resign in protest of? Himself?

Resign in protest that the accusation had not been properly followed up on by his superiors. It was clearly the AD's decision whether to involve the police or not, but Paterno could have tried to force their hand in that regard.

Is it not correct? To put it another way, let's say you worked as a teacher in a school and you got a report from a parent who claimed to have caught one of your colleagues doing this sort of thing when they came to pick up their kid. Is your first call to the Principal of the school or the cops? I think it's the former, and it becomes their responsibility to escalate to the authorities.

Unless the law says different mind.

Now maybe you might call the police yourself if it became clear to you that the Principal was covering up the report...

There's nothing wrong with me. He received a report, he didn't witness the act himself. Someone makes a report, it seems appropriate to move that report up to your boss - it would seem slightly inappropriate to get the police in and inform them after the fact, no?
