And now USC has had a player quit and accuse Sark of being racist on social media.

They just never stop giving.

And we thought the Kiffin years were fun.

How many years until Kiffin gets another HC job? 3?

I can't think of any reason Saban hired Kiffin other than to troll Tennessee fans. It couldn't be football coaching ability, right? Maybe he thinks he's got a shot with Layla.

Kiffin's style seems like a good match for what Saban does and their talent. Now I might argue that's a pretty suboptimal way to use that talent, but as long as Saban can get away with boring, uninspired play-action heavy football, Kiffin's a guy who does that decently.

Gah.

I knew WSU's D would not be good, but that was unexpectedly bad. Daryl Monroe, our best LB and a guy who has been a complete boss was god awful.

Super depressing loss, because unless Rutgers is better than I think, this could be a 3-4 win team. Offense has no margin for error, and the kind of pick Connor threw last night (he's going to throw picks, but picks that are the result of easily preventable stuff like NOT THROWING OFF YOUR BACK FOOT LIKE YOU ALWAYS DO) just cannot happen. One mistake there to give away the ball vs a D that could not stop us, one dropped punt, some choking by the OL and that's too much when your defense can't stop anybody.

Can't recall experiencing this sort of quick shift from having positive expectations to the season to having that crushed in one game. I'm good at finding silver linings, but the only thing I can come up with here is that we were playing in a half empty stadium and there was no crowd to feed off of, but that's bull****.

Save the one dumbass mistake, Connor looked pretty great, as did Vince Mayle and River Cracraft. We'll probably lose a lot of games like this, but at least we'll be fun for people who don't care about us winning to watch.

I shudder to think how many points Oregon is going to roll up on us in the conference opener.

Like obviously you hope for one bad game to be an aberration as they sometimes are, and I guess maybe that's possible, but I agree with you in terms of shift from positive expectations to feeling like it's a long damn season ahead. The defense didn't seem to even have any grasp on basic fundamentals of tackling.

There were a lot of missed tackles, but more the kind that a result of being out of position or late to get there. While the tackling is a problem, just getting our asses blocked to pieces left and right was probably worse.

You Huskies have a really limited and unimaginative trolling arsenal. It's the same 4-5 zingers on a loop for multiple decades.

I've watched way too much Cougar football to pretend that our legacy isn't primarily one of failure. I'm also of the opinion that some jokes just get better and better as they're driven into the ground, and this is one of them.

Also, beyond the Couging, what do you make fur of WSU for?

Well, the wheat fields, the remoteness, the "architecture", and the cheese.

Maybe not the cheese, it's pretty good.

Nobody's arguing that Wazzu's history contains more good than bad; it obviously doesn't, and it hands more pain than joy to its fanbase (as I know very well firsthand). For that reason it's understandable that some might speak to us dismissively.

But here's the thing: smug condescension is only great if you have standing. UW fans only PRETEND to have standing, I guess based on a season when they were awesome 22 years ago. If you ever catch me having entitlement issues over something that happened in my favor 22 years ago, I invite you to shoot me in the ****ing face and then to stand over my grave laughing hysterically with the full knowledge that you did the right thing. I guess that UW fans would also point to the all-time head-to-head record between the teams, largely run up way in the past given that the past decade has been a 5-5 split in the series. Guess it all does add up as to why they're still enamored with the same oh-so-clever zingers from multiple decades ago.

The cheese is downright elite by the way. I still make a point of getting a wheel shipped to me about once a year.

Haha I got a sneak preview of what an ******* Ryan Leaf was before his NFL career hit full swing, because I first got to WSU the year after he left, and his reputation as being a complete dick to everyone was incredibly widespread on campus before he ever started making an ass of himself in front of the whole country once the NFL season got going.
