edit: by the way, the Bureau of Labor Statistics says the median salary for a Chicago public school teacher is $56,000, which would mean the number tossed around ITT is 50% too large. Apparently the "average" number of 84k is calculated by including people like university professors and staff in it.
this BLS page says the avg (mean) wage for a chicago high school teacher is 69.5k (not including benefits), which is second highest in the nation (after NYC).
and so does your page too.
lol, ICWUDT, your "median salary for a Chicago public school teacher" is actually the mean salary for everybody in "Education, Training, and Library Occupations" working in Chicago. Which includes "Graduate Teaching Assistants" (avg=27k), "Teacher Assistants" (avg=25k), and "Library technicians" (avg=32k)
the
median for people in the "Education, Training, and Library Occupations" group of Chicago is actually $24.54 * 2080 = $51,043
