I prefer college basketball, but it's absurd to think the game is played at a higher level in any way. I can think of two good reasons to prefer the college game, and both are true with me.
1) I have a huge emotional investment in my team (UConn). Many of my best college memories are closely associated with going to men's basketball games. I have nothing similar with the NBA.
2) I enjoy watching the team improve and (hopefully) reach its potential over the course of the season. Early season play is often pretty rough and sloppy, but it's fun to imagine what the team can become, then watch it happen. Watching how much Emeka Okafor or Hasheem Thabeet improved during their time at UConn was tremendously gratifying.

My team is full of big, scary black guys, often with corn rows. But not so many tattoos.
Edit: And obviously, watching my team beat Duke and it's slow, white guys who can hit threes in the Final Four every few seasons is great.
