Wow, that color is terrible. Wimbledon's purple/green looks so nice (especially in person) and they've messed it all up. I read that the AELTC fought to keep ads out, why not fight for the color scheme too?

Completely agree. Daft, they use to do that in ATP events as well, which annoyed me too.

Anyone else think that picking up ranking points is a bit uncalled for as well seen as it's the olympics and not part of the tour? Or is that just to add value to it?

Yeah, I don't think he'll do it though.

I've got a felling it's going to be Fed to complete the set (singles set that is).

that reminds me of the school that painted the away locker rooms pink, because it would make the athletes feel more pussified.
expect these tennis players to be pussified

There has to be an incentive for the players to turn up. There used to not be any ranking points available and it led to few of the top players bothering with the Olympics.

I think it would be a terrible idea to penalize a player's ranking because they want to play the olympics. You realize some players would be defending points the week of the olympics right?

Re: Olympics: Tennis - AKA Wimbledon Part 2

If anything they should make the ranking points more, get rid of the requirement that they have played davis cup etc, make the men's tournament best of five so that winning an olympic gold could be counted to being on a par to winning a slam.

It seems absurd having any sport in the olympics where winning it isn't the ultimate or one of the ultimate goals of competing. Tennis at the olympics is an add on because it seemed a fun idea at the time, just like football is and golf will be.

Re: Olympics: Tennis - AKA Wimbledon Part 2

Unfortunately, the ITF has the power to decide who gets in. Since the ITF also runs Davis/Fed cup (which is struggling to get top players to participate even more than the olympics) they use it as an opportunity to blackmail players into playing Davis/Fed cup.

Re: Olympics: Tennis - AKA Wimbledon Part 2

The thing is with Davis cup is very few countries actually have a shot at winning it. France, Spain and maybe serbia. For any player not from those countries they are never gonna win so really what is the point? It's not as if the davis cup has the same appeal as playing for their country for footballers. I remember when murray played, won both his matches and gb still lost. Unsurprising that he skipped the next one.

Re: Olympics: Tennis - AKA Wimbledon Part 2

I can't imagine many players would play Davis cup to ensure they r in the Olympics; Olympic tennis just isn't that prestigious. Its biggest pros are non sporting related like opening ceremony and being in the Olympic environment. I doubt many tennis players have winning the Olympics down as one of their life goals.

Grand Slams > Olympics > WTF > 1000's > Davis Cup > 500's > 250's

IMO
