You're entitled to be wrong. Czech beer is cheaper than water in Prague.

dunno, I found some pretty great beers in belgium. not much diversity in styles tho. at least they had craft beers tho. obv, merica crushes in that department with top notch micros in all styles.

thread. Excited to see if trainwrecks ensue.

Been reading about the water for weeks but it really took the Real Sports thing to hammer home that is because a large part of the population use a sewage system that involves household pipes to a poop stream which joins poop rivers before all merging in a poop bay where people are going to compete.

The violence in rehousing for site clearance that was reported really kind of harshed my child-like glee with shiny gold medals and USA#1, which I did not appreciate.

Ready to get bored with the opening ceremony, watch basketball and track and renew my hatred for gymnastics (srsly I have never met a woman who is not all in on Olympic gymnastics).

Also saw this early on:

I do. It has some good "only for the Olympics" qualities: can be time-shifted to whenever with zero chance of spoiling, is always amusing to just look up and see people doing it competitively, and the "you had two feet off the ground" "no, I just had one" petty drama. I will watch anything but diving and lifting, because I just can't get past that feeling like they are going to get hurt on every attempt.

Nothing beats curling for "only for the olympics". I watch way too much of that **** during the winter olympics.

Not sure if it's confirmed yet...
According to this article it did happen but the guy was not a Russian diplomat:

The article also has this interesting tidbit of information:

Quote:
Such street muggings are common in Rio de Janeiro, especially in areas with heavy traffic, where motorcycles can drive in between lanes, attack motorists and escape easily.
Maybe they can work this into the cycling competition.

Sounds like an FSB officer. why would a random Brazilian pretend to be a Russian Diplomat? Also how many diplomats if any country go Jason Bourne on a mother****** like that? It feels like the Raymond Davis incident in Pakistan.

"Impersonating a Russian diplomat" seems like the sort of thing you would have to be really, really desperate to put in play. I mean, I could see someone with a car full of coke doing it, but...why wouldn't they just have their own gun in the first place? He had fake papers ready? Like, just in case he kills someone or has a runin with the police and needs to make a clean getaway?

Maybe Russia's hiding the guy?

Yep. I too watched more than my fair share of curling during the winter olympics. Mainly, because I got sucked into the Shuster hype. Damn that Shuster.

OMG only ARD/ZDF coverage in Germany this time. Gosh I hate their lame commentators. Eurosport shows only highlights. At least from 2018 onwards they have the exclusive rights.

You sure? Seems likely to me that they'll sell sublicenses again

Eurosport might be a full on pay tv channel by then too. Though I don't think the olympics are required by law to be available for free like german world cup matches

Ofc a lot can happen in 2 years but since Eurosport paid probably a lot of money it doesnt make sense for them to sell licenses for important events like the 100m or Biathlon.

I would have no problem to pay the 4.99 if it is still possible to cancel my subscription after 1 month. Although if they really are the only ones to show the Olympics they probably make a lot through advertisement.

Heard today from two girls I know down there. One (American) said the city is abuzz with amazing energy. The other (Brazilian from São Paulo) said the city was the cleanest she had ever seen it and was super gorgeous and everyone was having a blast.
