i have yet to meet one person or seen anyone say anything who thinks NBC does a good job with the coverage. that pretty rare, because usually you get at least someone that argues they're doing a good job for whatever reason. i just don't get how nbc can get away with this. i guess they kind of don't in a way because they're losing tons of money, and i for one, am happy they are.

I just don't get how in 2010 I'm supposed to avoid the results. Are they unaware that if I flip ESPN on for 10 minutes, the results of every event will have scrolled across the bottom of the screen a half dozen times? These sports are boring enough on their own, I'm not going to watch it if there is no suspense. It's no wonder they're in fourth place.

One thing I thought of when I saw the complaint about the US-Canada game being on MSNBC, though. In some ways comparing US and Canadian coverage is apples-to-oranges. The whole concept of cable vs over-the-air is pretty foreign here. I don't know anyone who watches TV that doesn't have cable, and I think it's a pretty rare thing up here. Out of 4 or 5 channels showing the Olympics here, I think you can only get one over-the-air. So showing some of the Olympics on a second-tier cable channel really makes no difference to the vast majority of Canadian viewers; I get the impression there's a lot more Americans who get their TV programming over-the-air.

Dear NBC: Thanks for not showing the round of 32 in snowboard cross (by far, imo, one of the more exciting sports to watch on TV, which can't really be said about, say, WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY) and thus leaving us to scratch our heads wondering why the **** Graham Wantanabe, who had the 2nd fastest time in qualifying, was suddenly missing when you skipped us ahead to the quarterfinals. Seeing that Swedish chick (although I'll admit, she was hot) get the fastest time in a staggered race instead was really electrifying!

Oh, and I don't think NBC is showing non-USA women's curling on ANY channels, which disappoints me because after all those pics Geddy posted of Jennifer Jones in the NHL thread I really wanted to see her in action. So I guess I'll umpteenth the notion that NBC sucks balls for not using some throwaway channel for live coverage of whatever is going on.

In case you don't know, there's a round in between. Wantanabe finished 3rd behind Boivin and Pozzolini, and ranked 18th overall.

And really, everything about NBC's coverage is just so terrible. It's like, 5 minutes of sports, then 5 minutes of commercials, go back to Bob Costas in the main studio for 5 minutes for random updates, go to the Whistler Sliding Centre or some random ass place for 5 minutes for a correspondent to update us on the weather conditions for some event that takes place 36 hours from now that 5 people in New England may or may not give a **** about, 5 minutes of some human interest piece with serious music about some random athlete, and all the while there are probably like 4 events going on at various places in British Columbia that YOU COULD HAVE BEEN SHOWING US THIS WHOLE TIME.

I get 4 dedicated channels that just show the BBC commentary (not 100% here), hardly any ads, no studios to go back to, 90% of the stuff is live, only human interest stories on the channels when there is nothing else can be shown
