Re: Olympics: Official bitch about NBC's coverage thread
Clark you are absolutely correct. I was really looking forward to these games since I am in the time zone, yet the joke that is NBC obviously ****s it up. Standard I guess. Maybe at some point the Olympics will actually be covered by a network that knows how to do sports.

Re: Olympics: Official bitch about NBC's coverage thread
Are there really no options for live Olympics on TV down there? We have at least 3-4 English language stations, 1 French, and 1 Italian or something all with live coverage. And this is just with standard cable, not even talking satellite or anything. But between NBC, MSNBC, whatever other stations are broadcasting it, satellite, etc you got nothing live? No funky foreign channels buried in the back of your cable/satellite package or anything?
But yeah, **** NBC!

Most of the hockey and curling will be live, I think. And NBC has already shown some speed skating live, and will probably show most of the major prime time stuff (figure skating, short track, etc.) live. But the West Coast is screwed.

I know, but having one hour worth of tape delay is just silly.

why?
look all the programming of the olympics is based on one premise: that no one cares who wins enough to actually find out beforehand, because winter sports are by and large uninteresting. clark, are you really watching the universal sports network when the olympics aren't on, getting your fill of swimming and biking and skiing and curling?
anyway, it's a shame the coverage is shoddy, and that NBC paid too much to air boring sports that no one cares about and is now passing the losses on to the viewer.

There's a sort of "why bother?" element to do it when you're tape delaying things when you don't have to. I get that that's a double-edged sword (why bother showing them live) but you might as well put them on while they're on.
I can't speak for clark, but I have occasionally checked out Universal Sports ever since I figured out how to get it (two months ago).

I have no clue what Universal Sports is. It's listed on NBC's website with no explanation. Even so, the lineup there looks crappy too. It's all a sad joke.

Re: Olympics: Official bitch about NBC's coverage thread
The Olympics is largely funded by US money, yet somehow we are the only nation that can't seem to cobble together reasonable coverage.

Context is everything in sports. I generally find baseball boring, but I'll watch the World Series. If it was on tape delay though I wouldn't bother.

Re: Olympics: Official bitch about NBC's coverage thread
I can't stand tape delay. It's just exciting to see the climax of an olympic event as it happens in real time, even if it's a boring ass event.
When some guy/girl has been training for his/her entire life to learn how to do this one skill that I'll only see once every 4 years, it's really only fun to watch as it develops in real time. (For some reason)

Re: Olympics: Official bitch about NBC's coverage thread
CTV in Canada kept going to commercials during the parade of athletes, that really pissed me off. I dont think NBC had any, I would flip over during the CTV commercials, any they would be about 4 countries ahead of CTV.
